Do you want to use the Google Translate Camera? Read on to know how you can do that and make translating your favourite stuff easier. Whatever the language is, let’s begin.
Can Google Translate use the Camera?
Absolutely, yes! It’s one of those “handy” features that makes randomly coming across a new thing, and especially traveling, so much easier. You just open the app, tap on the Camera icon, and point your phone at whatever you’re trying to read, like a menu, a street sign, or a product label. The app uses Instant Translation to overlay the translated text right on top of the original image in real-time. It’s fast and gives you the answer in a few seconds. However, you need to make sure that your camera can read the text properly, as bad lighting or blurred text visibility can lead to an error in the results. It can come super handy if you don’t know a particular language but still want to roam around being perfectly linguistically efficient.
Steps to use the Google Translate Camera
If you want to use the Google Translate Camera, then these are the steps that you can follow.
Open the App
Start Google Translate on your phone. Make sure you’ve selected the languages at the top to avoid any possible errors.
Tap on the Camera Icon
Now you must find the camera icon. You’ll see it right there on the home screen, which is usually on the bottom left or right of the text box.
Grant Permissions
If it’s your first time, the app will ask to access your camera. Just select “Allow.” This will grant it permission to use it.
Aim
Point your lens at the text as it tries to read it. Try to keep your hands still and the lighting decent. If the camera shakes too much, the words might jump around, or the results may be haywire.
Select Your Mode
You can also pick your mode!
- Instant – It translates live as you move.
- Scan – For this, you have to tap on the shutter button to “freeze” the image. This lets you highlight specific lines with your finger if you only need one sentence translated at a time.
- Import – If you already took a photo of a sign earlier, you can tap the gallery icon within the camera view to translate it now. The above two are much simpler.
And that is how you can use your camera to translate any language you want!
