Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has won a $1 billion contract to supply AI servers to X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, according to a Bloomberg report. HPE wins a US $1 billion AI server deal for Elon Musk’s X, marking a major breakthrough in the company’s AI server business. The deal, finalized last year, marks a significant milestone for HPE’s AI server business, signaling confidence in its technology.

This agreement boosts HPE’s AI server division, which reported a 16% growth in revenue, reaching $1.5 billion in the latest quarter. Analysts see this deal as a transformative moment for HPE, which has been working to strengthen its AI capabilities.

C.R. Howdyshell, CEO of Advizex, an HPE AI solutions provider, called it an “industry-changing deal.” Howdyshell emphasized the challenges of securing such high-value agreements and highlighted the potential it brings for HPE’s AI ecosystem.

Growing Opportunities in AI

The AI market continues to grow at a rapid pace. Total Addressable Market (TAM) for AI is projected to reach $1 trillion over the next three years. Advizex, which has collaborated with HPE and Nvidia, is optimistic about the growth potential. A $40 million deal last year with Hut 8, a Bitcoin miner, involved deploying 125 HPE Cray supercomputer nodes with 1,000 Nvidia GPUs.

The collaboration between HPE and Nvidia is considered crucial. Nvidia’s advanced GPUs, networking solutions, and software are integral to delivering AI solutions. Advizex anticipates a significant portion of its 2025 revenue to come from AI projects, driven by a dedicated high-performance computing and AI division.

The announcement that HPE won a US $1 billion AI server deal for Elon Musk’s X has boosted confidence in the company’s growth potential. HPE’s win is seen as a vote of confidence amid stiff competition from rivals like Dell and Super Micro. HPE’s liquid-cooling technology is believed to have played a pivotal role in securing the deal, according to Bloomberg analysts. The use of advanced cooling solutions addresses the high power demands of AI servers.

Expanding Demand for AI Servers

The rise in AI workloads has spurred demand for high-powered servers. Companies led by Musk, including Tesla and xAI, have become key customers for such hardware. X’s supercomputer project in Memphis, utilizing servers from Dell, Super Micro, and now HPE, underscores the competition.

HPE shares rose slightly after the announcement, reflecting investor optimism. However, concerns remain about the potential impact of large deals on profit margins. Meanwhile, data center infrastructure spending surged by 34% in 2024 to $282 billion, driven by AI adoption. Nvidia’s role in this growth has been particularly noteworthy.

HPE expects enterprises and governments to continue adopting AI systems in 2025. While the market remains competitive, the company is optimistic about its ability to meet growing demand. Analysts note that larger deals like this could reshape the competitive dynamics in the AI server market.

A Boost for HPE

HPE wins a US $1 billion AI server deal for Elon Musk’s X, thus reflecting the increasing demand for high-powered servers in AI applications. The contract with X showcases HPE’s growing reputation in the AI sector, especially after being considered a laggard compared to competitors like Dell and Super Micro.

This deal could position HPE as a leading player, aided by its advanced liquid-cooling technology and a strong partnership with Nvidia. The technology addresses the significant power demands of AI workloads, giving HPE a competitive edge. However, while the agreement boosts HPE’s revenue, analysts warn that large contracts often strain margins.
