LG Electronics has set a new standard for gaming display technology following its latest pre-CES 2025, unveiling three cutting-edge OLED gaming monitors that promise to transform the gaming experience. Amongst them, of course, the UltraGear 45GX990A, for it is the world’s first 5K2K-resolution monitor, distinguished by the novel bendable display technology.
Already winning not one but three CES 2025 Innovation Awards, including the highly coveted ‘Best of Innovation’, the 45GX990A is not only LG’s first flagship display but also showcases innovation in gaming displays.
This 45-inch monitor boasts a bendable technology that can mechanically adjust its curvature from completely flat to a 900R curve – optimally adjusting to different gaming scenarios and viewing preferences.
LG Unleashes New 45-inch Ultrawide Gaming Monitors
With the LG webOS platform powering the 45GX990A, this is more than a gaming monitor. Smart capabilities enable seamless streaming of entertainment content, making the adjustable curvature feature even more valuable for various viewing experiences. Be it an immersive gaming session or your favorite streaming content, the monitor adapts to provide the best viewing conditions.
Also introduced with the flexible model is its brother, the 45GX950A, with a fixed 800R curvature. Both of these 45-inch monitors offer remarkable specs: 5,120 x 2,160 resolution with a 21:9 aspect ratio. The two monitors boast proprietary LG Anti-Glare and Low Reflection coating and low blue light emissions, for extended comfort during gaming marathons.
The most significant features of these monitors include LG’s dual-mode technology, which is second generation. This technology allows a switch from 21:9 or 16:9 aspect ratios and screen size between 39, 34, or 27 inches through simple one-touch controls. The monitors also offer eight different preset combinations of screen resolution and refresh rates to accommodate different gaming requirements or preferences.
Performance-wise, these monitors exhibit excellent specifications. Although they may not be able to surpass a native 165Hz refresh rate at maximum resolution, they can reach that impressive 330Hz if running at 2560×1080 resolution. The displays boast an extremely fast 0.03ms GtG response time and are VESA-certified for DisplayHDR True Black 400, exhibiting superior contrast and black-level performance.
Connectivity options are no less impressive, including both HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 inputs, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, and NVIDIA G-Sync variable refresh rate systems, as well as DTS Headphone:X for further audio immersion. The USB-C port is included but with 90W power delivery for easy charging.
New UltraGear Lineup Showcases Innovation
The last of the trio is the 39GX90SA, which is a 39-inch model that retains most of the premium features of its larger siblings. It features a fixed 800R curvature and a 21:9 aspect ratio with HDMI 2.1 connectivity, USB-C port, and webOS functionality. It has the same response time of 0.03ms and supports VRR as the 45-inch models but operates on a slightly lower WQHD resolution, with a maximum of 240Hz refresh rate, and includes DisplayPort 1.4 rather than 2.1.
All of them feature an RGBW subpixel structure, which means that the pixel density of all of the 45-inch models is 125 pixels per inch. This arrangement will help the displays deliver very good clarity and color accuracy requirements both for gaming and content viewing.
While pricing details remain under wraps, these monitors represent LG’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of gaming display technology.
The combination of innovative features like bendable screens, high refresh rates, and smart functionality positions these monitors at the forefront of gaming display technology as we approach CES 2025.
The announcement of these monitors, particularly the groundbreaking bendable 45GX990A, demonstrates LG’s continued leadership in display innovation and their understanding of diverse gaming needs. As gamers increasingly seek displays that can adapt to different usage scenarios while delivering top-tier performance, LG’s new UltraGear lineup appears poised to meet these evolving demands.
