If you’ve been planning to buy a car, now is the time to act! In a major game-changer for Indian car buyers, leading automakers have announced massive price cuts across their model line-ups following the government’s decision to rationalise GST rates on automobiles. Starting September 22, just in time for the festive Navaratri season, customers can now save anywhere between Rs 60,000 on small cars to over Rs 3 lakh on premium SUVs. The new GST framework is shaking up the auto market, promising exciting deals and more affordable options for everyone.

  • The Tiago hatchback now comes at Rs 75,000 less.

  • The Tigor compact sedan is cheaper by Rs 80,000.

  • The stylish Altroz hatchback offers a huge discount of Rs 1.10 lakh.

SUV fans, take note:

  • The Punch drops by Rs 85,000.

  • The Nexon SUV now costs Rs 1.55 lakh less.

  • Premium models like the Harrier and Safari now come with price cuts of Rs 1.40 lakh and Rs 1.45 lakh, respectively.

If you’ve been eyeing the newly launched Curvv, it’s now Rs 65,000 cheaper. These bold moves make Tata a hot pick for buyers seeking value without compromise.

Mahindra & Mahindra Joins the Price-Cut Frenzy

Mahindra & Mahindra, known for its tough SUVs, is offering some of the steepest reductions in the segment:

  • The Bolero and Bolero Neo now cost up to Rs 1.27 lakh less.

  • The XUV3XO Petrol gets a Rs 1.40 lakh discount, while the Diesel variant sees a massive Rs 1.56 lakh cut.

Adventure lovers, rejoice! The Thar 2WD Diesel is now Rs 1.35 lakh cheaper, and the Thar 4WD Diesel and Scorpio Classic get Rs 1.01 lakh reductions each. The flagship XUV700 SUV is also more affordable, with a Rs 1.43 lakh price drop. These moves are set to lure both first-time buyers and off-road enthusiasts.

Toyota & Hyundai Slash Prices – Luxury & Performance Now Within Reach

Toyota went big:

  • The mighty Fortuner SUV is now up to Rs 3.49 lakh cheaper.

  • The luxurious Legender SUV comes at Rs 3.34 lakh less.

  • The premium Vellfire MPV and Hilux pickup get price cuts of Rs 2.78 lakh and Rs 2.52 lakh respectively.

Even popular models like the Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross drop by Rs 1.80 lakh and Rs 1.15 lakh.

Hyundai jumped on the bandwagon too:

  • The ever-popular i20 N Line is cheaper by Rs 1.08 lakh.

  • The sporty Venue N Line now saves customers Rs 1.23 lakh.

  • The premium Tucson SUV sees a massive Rs 2.40 lakh cut.

Renault Joins the Race: Affordable Entry into the Market

Renault also passed the GST benefits to customers, with models like the Kwid, Triber, and Kiger getting price cuts up to Rs 96,395. Perfect for those hunting for value-packed, reliable city cars.

What Changed? Understanding the New GST Framework

Here’s the lowdown:

  • Smaller cars (petrol under 1,200 cc, diesel under 1,500 cc, and length up to 4,000 mm) now attract just 18% GST.

  • Bigger cars (petrol over 1,200 cc, diesel over 1,500 cc, and length over 4,000 mm) face a higher tax of 40%.

This rationalisation makes smaller, efficient cars much more affordable, while encouraging customers to choose models that suit their needs without feeling taxed out of the market.
