A new change arrives in the plan sheet of Mercedes. Inspired by BMW’s move, Mercedes is now moving towards a Hybrid engine that will offer the next-generation S-Class with both an electric and combustion engine gear. Stated differently, that essentially means that the EQS will disappear after a single generation, but not prior to a mid-cycle upgrade. The most interesting part is Mercedes is redesigning its S-Class model before moving to the next-generation model.

The CEO of Mercedes Ola Källenius, in an interview with Autocar, said: “In the future, there will be two S-Classes, ICE and electric.” The head of the Stuttgart office continued by stating that the exterior and interior designs of the flagship gas and electric vehicles will be identical. However, whereas the BMW 7 Series and i7 use the same platform, the British publication cites unnamed sources who suggest that won’t be the case with the S-Class.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class: Diverging Platforms for ICE and EV Models, Unified Features Expected

Anticipated to sit atop the MB will be the S-Class without a combustion engine.EA Large architecture, while an upgraded version of the present MRA hardware will support the gas-powered variant. Rejecting speculations that the MB.EA platform was canceled at the end of June, Källenius stated that the platform’s development “is running at high speed.” He refuted the story once more in the latest interview with Autocar, saying, “We’re already planning with MB.“EA Big. The German newspaper Handelsblatt reported in mid-May that the next-generation EV design had been abandoned.

It’s unbelievable the ICE and EV S-Class models will be practically identical by copying the BMW 7 Series / i7 due to the differing platforms. Given that the engineers may usually extend the wheelbase after decreasing the overhangs when using a customized electric platform, the sedans are probably going to differ in size. EVs often have more space than comparably sized ICE vehicles since the packaging is much better because there is no need to house greasy parts. But compared to the present S-Class and the EQS, the two range-topping Mercedes cars probably share more features.

Future of Mercedes: Next-Gen E-Class Goes Electric, EQS Upgrades to 800V Architecture with Enhanced Range

The latter has received a lot of flak for seeming bulbous, which we hope will disappear as the EQS passes away. According to Autocar, the next generation E-Class ICE will also have a completely electric variant to replace the EQE, and this will happen as a result of the construction a new S-Class with gas engines. The E and S are mechanically connected, therefore it makes economic sense to distribute development expenditures among many models in order to mimic the approach used by the larger model.

Meanwhile, an upgrade to the existing S-Class is scheduled for 2026, while a makeover for the EQS is scheduled for 2025. Although nothing is official yet, it’s thought the EQS will have an 800V electric architecture to enable much faster charging periods. The battery may be fully charged from 10% to 80% in as little as 21 minutes.

More miles of range could also be possible with new chemistry. A battery capacity increase for the EQS for the 2025 model year brings its WLTP range up to 511 miles from 108.4 to 118 kilowatt-hours. Regarding efficiency, the 2025 EQS with the highest rating in the US is 371 miles.
