Microsoft Office Apps to Stop Working on Windows 10 After October 2025

Microsoft has announced that it will cease support for Microsoft Office applications on Windows 10, effective October 14, 2025. This significant change aligns with the end-of-support date for the Windows 10 operating system itself, pushing users to upgrade to Windows 11 to continue receiving updates and support for their essential productivity tools.

End of Support Announcement:

Microsoft just announced in a blog post that Microsoft 365 programs, formerly known as Office apps, will no longer work on Windows 10 devices after October 14, 2025. All Office versions, including Office 2021, Office 2019, and Office 2016, are impacted by this decision. Even while the apps will still work beyond this date, users can eventually run into performance and dependability problems without Microsoft’s official support or upgrades.

The business stressed how crucial it is for users who depend on these apps to update to Windows 11. Microsoft states that “you will need to upgrade to Windows 11 in order to use Microsoft 365 applications on your device,” emphasizing their continuous effort to encourage customers to switch to the newest operating system.

Implications for Users:

This announcement has significant consequences for both individual and corporate users. Because of its familiarity and connectivity with a wide range of applications, Windows 10 is still widely used. But when support ends, customers can be exposed to software problems and security threats that won’t be fixed without updates. As problems develop, this can result in possible disruptions in productivity.

Furthermore, there are additional difficulties associated with the switch to Windows 11. Some older PCs are unable to fulfill the hardware requirements of the new operating system. Notably, in order to run Windows 11, Microsoft requires that a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0 be present. Because of hardware limits, many users are now unable or unwilling to upgrade.

Encouraging Upgrades:

Since Windows 11’s October 2021 release, Microsoft has been aggressively urging users to upgrade. By referring to 2025 as “the year of the Windows 11 PC refresh,” the company hopes to encourage consumers to put system upgrades ahead of other purchases of consumer electronics. Microsoft executive vice president and chief marketing officer Yusuf Mehdi said he thinks Windows PCs will be among the most significant pieces of technology that people look to update in 2025.

Microsoft is providing free Windows 10 to Windows 11 upgrades for qualified devices to people who are hesitant to upgrade because of the expense or incompatibilities. Users should be advised, however, that they may experience a growing number of challenges in efficiently utilizing their Office apps if they decide not to upgrade by the end of support.

Conclusion:

Users should think about their options going forward as Microsoft gets ready to discontinue support for Office programs on Windows 10. It is highly advised to upgrade to Windows 11 in order to continue using Microsoft Office as well as to take advantage of the new operating system’s improved security and performance features.

Being aware of these changes is essential, even though some users may find the move difficult because of hardware requirements or personal preferences. Upgrading systems in response to the ongoing evolution of technology will guarantee that users may continue to be productive and secure while performing their everyday responsibilities.
