The OnePlus 13 has been officially announced for the release on October 31, and it comes with the latest camera tricks. But here is the million dollar question—is it an upgrade? Well, let’s break it out and see what OnePlus has for the public now.
The Camera Lineup: A Triple Threat
OnePlus is not holding back with three Amber Orange 50 MP cameras on the back. No, there’s no typo here; the device packs three 50-megapixel lenses.
Here’s the setup:
Main Camera – 50MP LYT-808
Ultrawide Camera – 50MP and has a horizontal field of view 120 degrees.
Periscope Camera – 50 MP, 3x optical zoom, f/2.6 aperture and OIS
Now, this new periscope lens replaces the older 64MP shooters housed in the OnePlus 12. Well, does that sound like regressing now? Perhaps – often, lower degrees of resolution entail lower degrees of zoom capability. But there’s a twist! This new sensor is a little bigger so it could work better at low light conditions. Just like replacing a high-performance sports car with a four-wheel-drive SUV: sure, it’s not as fast around the track, but then it wouldn’t care if there were jumps involved.
Borrowing Goodies from OPPO
If you are a fan of the OPPO Find X8 series, then you will be glad to hear that some of these tricks are coming to OnePlus 13.
HDR10+ on all exposure levels / Dolby Vision on all cameras at 4K @ 60 frames per second.
Live Photos that go beyond the punched picture—they bring some life to your memories!.
A very good low light performance, meaning you don’t have to go into a high-speed sports mode to try to capture a super-active dog or a speeding car.
No more will you experience that halcyon shutter lag which is common with other mobiles such as the Samsung Ultras.
What Else Is in the Package?
And it wasn’t just the cameras getting their update of glow. The OnePlus 13 is packed with:
The new first of its kind; the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.
A 6,000mAh battery—now that puts out more power, means fewer stops for a recharge.
It supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging (as fast as it gets)!
Specifically, dust and water resistant with IP68/IP69 ratings. Therefore, you can take it on adventures without any concern regarding occasional splash or two.
Upgrade or Downgrade? You Be the Judge
So, where does that leave us? The primary camera remains the same as the previous model, while the ultrawide and the periscope lenses have been switched in the OnePlus 13. Is that a downgrade? Perhaps, for zoom enthusiasts who had previously used the 64MP 3x telephoto, but it is fascinating how this 50MP periscope camera might perform in low light conditions. In fact, if shooting sports is your thing and the ability to cover an extended range of motion is going to sell you on a camera – then these new features could tip you over the edge.
Whether it is an improvement or a detriment will determine your stance – do you want more zoom or better night time shots? One way or the other, there is a lot to work with here in the new camera setup.
