On February 6, at an internal Xbox town hall with Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer and Xbox President Sarah Bond, images from Palworld were displayed on displays. The meeting was held on Tuesday, following reports that the PlayStation 5 might get Starfield, an Xbox exclusive, and that the Nintendo Switch would get Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment. Before a public statement is made on February 15, many Microsoft staff members who participated in the virtual Xbox town hall provided Inverse with an account of the event.
It is reasonable to believe that another Call of Duty will be released in October, Spencer told the staff, confirming that Xbox will release “future hardware.” In response to questions about the company’s recent layoffs, he noted that it had been difficult to decide to discontinue unproductive initiatives.
Xbox’s Vision: Every Screen is an Xbox – Insider Insights and Strategic Direction
Several insiders who asked to remain anonymous since they were not permitted to speak to the media claimed that Bond stated at the internal meeting that “every screen is an Xbox.” Bond talked a lot about Xbox’s strategy of being available on many platforms and its higher goals of being the best cross-platform gaming company.
Xbox has disclosed its multi-device plan previously. Xbox is “not trying to force the player to upgrade to an individual device or to make things exclusive to this device or that device,” Vice President of Xbox Gaming Devices and Ecosystem Jason Ronald told me in 2020. He calculated that this approach has been in use ever since Spencer took over as CEO of the business in 2014, one year after the Xbox One was introduced.
Microsoft displayed pictures of Palworld on tablets, TV displays, monitors, and mobile devices to demonstrate the concept of Xbox on every screen. Inside, staff members laughed about the likelihood of an Xbox portable, which has previously been speculated, and expressed amazement at seeing so much Palworld. Xbox did not respond to several requests for feedback.
The Game That Sold 12 Million Copies In Two Weeks
Just two months into 2024, Palworld an open-world survival game akin to Pokémon that revolves around arming Pals has grown unexpectedly popular. Palworld is also available through Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass video game streaming service. Almost two weeks after its release, on January 31, the game’s developer Pocketpair announced that the game had amassed 7 million Xbox gamers and sold 12 million copies on Steam. Commenting was not answered by Pocketpair.
Microsoft and Xbox may have an additional advantage over rivals if they gain exclusive access to Palworld. However, the Pokémon Company issued a warning in January stating that it will look into and take legal action against any games that violate its intellectual property rights. Prior to Thursday at 3 p.m. Eastern, Spencer, Bond, and Matt Booty will host an Xbox podcast that will presumably dispel the numerous rumors and reports regarding the future of Xbox platforms and exclusive titles. This internal town hall was held ahead of schedule.
