Perplexity AI Eyes $14 Billion Valuation in New Funding Round
TwitterWhatsappLinkedin

Perplexity AI, a search startup firm, is in advanced discussions to raise a new funding of $500 million, which would lift its valuation to $14 billion, the sources privy to the deal said. The round, orchestrated by venture capital firm Accel, with other leading investors, would be a steep rise from the company’s valuation of $9 billion in half a year.

This explosive value growth is an expression of the faith of investors in the AI-based search method of Perplexity that gives direct, conversational answers rather than the traditional web links. The users of Perplexity have increased to over 15 million monthly users up to April 2025.

Perplexity’s Explosive Growth in the AI Search Wars

Established in 2022, Perplexity has witnessed a meteoric growth in the search space. Its valuation journey is a reflection: worth $520 million in early 2024, it soared to $3 billion over the summer months, tripled to $9 billion in December, and is now set to grow by over 50% in less than half a year.

“Perplexity is a paradigm shift in how people use information on the web,” technology analyst Maya Rosenberg said. “Their conversational tone with clear answers, as well as source links for validation, alleviates a great deal of the pain points users experience with traditional search engines.”

Its profitability has been following its increasing popularity. Perplexity has reportedly reached close to $100 million in annual recurring revenue as of March 2025, with revenues from its two paid service tiers, one being an enterprise tier that enables organizations to search internal records and external data sets.

Perplexity plans to put the new capital towards aggressive growth initiatives, like launching its own AI-powered web browser. Nicknamed “Comet,” the browser aims to directly compete with Google Chrome and Apple’s Safari by offering “agentic search” capabilities that integrate Perplexity’s answer engine with research browsing abilities for developers.

Strategic alliances are also growing Perplexity’s user base. Perplexity is said to be under consideration by Apple to be included as an add-on to Safari, potentially making the startup accessible to millions of new customers. Perplexity’s answer engine will also be pre-installed on new Motorola devices worldwide, adding to its base of users.

The firm competes increasingly in the changing search ecosystem. OpenAI recently included search facilities in ChatGPT, and Google launched AI Overviews on its search outcomes in 2024. Other AI firms such as Anthropic, are also joining the search ecosystem, increasing competition in AI-driven information retrieval.

“The search wars are heating up again, but this time with AI as the battleground,” said technology industry consultant Raj Patel. “Perplexity has made significant strides by thinking through search from the ground up rather than building on top of others.”

Perplexity’s Funding Surge and Web Search Innovation

For users, it promises constant innovation in the way information is discovered and presented on the web. Perplexity’s answer-level citation emphasis prevents AI hallucinations and provides efficiency advantages over traditional link-based search pages.

The private talks have informed us that the next funding round will close in weeks, sources close to the private negotiations have informed us. If it goes through, it will be one of the biggest funding rounds for an AI startup in 2025.

As Perplexity keeps pushing its growth rate, industry onlookers will be keen to observe whether this well-capitalized upstart is able to keep up the pace with deep-pocketed tech behemoths and entrenched user bases. The firm’s success to date indicates that even in highly competitive markets where entrenched players are dominant, creative solutions to basic technologies can establish strong momentum rapidly.

How to Increase Gas Mileage: Small Driving Changes That Save Big at the Pump

Fuel prices may rise and fall, but one thing stays constant: drivers want to make every litre go further. The good news is that improving gas mileage does not always require buying a new hybrid or changing cars altogether. A few disciplined habits behind the wheel, along with basic maintenance, can make a noticeable difference over time. For most drivers, the biggest gains come from reducing waste. That means less aggressive acceleration, fewer unnecessary trips, correctly inflated tyres and a car that is mechanically healthy. Smooth Driving Uses Less Fuel The quickest way to burn more fuel is to drive as if every traffic light is a starting grid. Hard acceleration, sharp braking and sudden changes in speed force the engine to work harder and consume more petrol. A smoother approach works better. Accelerate gradually, maintain a steady speed where possible and look ahead to anticipate traffic. If a red light is visible in the distance, easing off the accelerator early is usually more efficient than rushing forward and braking hard at the last moment. Speed also matters. As speeds rise, aerodynamic drag increases and the engine needs more energy to keep the vehicle moving. On highways, staying within a sensible cruising range rather than constantly pushing at high speeds can help reduce fuel consumption. Check Tyre Pressure Regularly Tyres are easy to ignore until something goes wrong, but they play a major role in fuel economy. Under-inflated tyres create more rolling resistance, which means the engine has to use more fuel just to move the car forward. Drivers should check tyre pressure at least once a month, preferably when the tyres are cold. The correct pressure is usually listed on the driver-side door frame or in the owner’s manual. It is important not to use the maximum pressure printed on the tyre sidewall as a target. That figure is not necessarily the recommended setting for the vehicle. The US Environmental Protection Agency notes that under-inflation reduces fuel economy, increases tyre wear and adds to emissions. Stop Carrying Extra Weight A car is not a storage room. Heavy items in the boot may seem harmless, but extra weight makes the engine work harder, especially in city traffic where the vehicle is constantly stopping and starting. Clear out unnecessary tools, boxes, sports gear and other items that have been sitting in the car for weeks. Roof racks and cargo boxes can also hurt mileage by increasing aerodynamic drag. If they are not being used, remove them. This is especially relevant for drivers who spend most of their time on highways, where wind resistance becomes a bigger factor. Keep Up With Maintenance A well-maintained vehicle is usually a more fuel-efficient vehicle. Delayed oil changes, worn spark plugs, clogged air filters, dragging brakes and poor wheel alignment can all affect how efficiently a car runs. Following the manufacturer’s service schedule is the safest route. Use the recommended engine oil grade and get warning lights checked instead of ignoring them. A sudden drop in mileage can be an early sign that something needs attention. The EPA advises motorists to follow their vehicle maintenance schedule and use the recommended motor oil to support better fuel efficiency and safer operation. Combine Trips and Avoid Long Idling Short trips can be surprisingly fuel-hungry because the engine has not had enough time to reach its most efficient operating temperature. Combining errands into one planned route can reduce cold starts, unnecessary kilometres and fuel use. Idling is another quiet fuel drain. If you are waiting for an extended period, switching off the engine can be more sensible than leaving it running. Modern cars do not need long warm-up periods before driving. Start, settle for a few seconds and drive gently. The Bottom Line Better gas mileage is less about one miracle trick and more about consistent habits. Drive smoothly, maintain the right tyre pressure, remove excess weight and service the car on time. These small changes may not feel dramatic on a single trip, but over months of commuting, school runs and highway drives, they can add up to real savings.
