Rockstar Games is opening the gates of the frontier once again. The studio has confirmed that updated editions of Red Dead Redemption and its fan-favourite expansion Undead Nightmare will arrive on December 2 across a wide range of platforms, including iOS, Android, Netflix Games, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The release packs the complete single-player experience along with every bonus feature from the Game of the Year Edition, making this the most accessible version of the classic yet.
A First for Mobile and Netflix Gamers
Here’s the big shift. For the first time, Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare are headed to mobile devices with touch-friendly controls designed from scratch. Players won’t need extra hardware, subscription tiers, or weird workarounds. If you have a compatible device, you can ride into the sunset straight away.
Netflix subscribers get an additional perk. Both titles will be available to download and play at no added cost through Netflix’s growing in-app game library. It’s yet another signal that Netflix is taking gaming seriously, and it’s a strong catch for a service building its catalogue around established hits.
Visual Upgrades and Performance Boosts on New Consoles
On the console side, Rockstar is giving the classics a respectable tune-up. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players can expect 60fps gameplay, HDR, and resolutions up to 4K. The games aren’t full remakes, but the improvements should make the ride smoother for anyone experiencing Marston’s journey on modern hardware.
Things get even more interesting on the Nintendo Switch 2. The games will support DLSS, HDR, mouse input, and 60fps at higher resolutions. It’s a clear push to show what the next-gen Nintendo hardware can handle and a strong launch-window flex for Switch 2 players hungry for heavyweight titles.
Free Upgrades for Existing Owners
Rockstar isn’t leaving long-time fans behind. Owners of the digital editions on PS4, Xbox One, and the original Switch will be eligible for free upgrades. Save transfers from PS4 and Switch are supported too, which means players can pick up right where they left off without starting over.
The updated versions are also joining the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue and the GTA+ Games Library on launch day. It’s a smart move that widens access even further, especially for subscribers who want to revisit the frontier without buying an extra copy.
A Strategic Release After GTA 6’s Delay
What this really means is that Rockstar is keeping its fanbase warm. The announcement comes shortly after the studio confirmed a delay for GTA 6, creating a noticeable gap in the release calendar. Bringing Red Dead Redemption to mobile and Netflix fills that hole with a dependable crowd-puller.
The expanded platform list also introduces the series to players who may have never touched the original. With rumours swirling around a potential third instalment, this release helps build fresh momentum and gets a new generation familiar with John Marston’s world.
