Samsung has officially unveiled the newest addition to its Galaxy S25 lineup the Galaxy S25 FE (Fan Edition) delivering the core experience of its flagship devices in a more budget-friendly package. Priced starting at $649.99, the S25 FE is designed for users who want premium Samsung features, including Galaxy AI, without paying flagship prices.
We spent some time with Samsung’s latest Android phone ahead of its release. Here’s everything you need to know, along with our first impressions.
Samsung continues the Fan Edition tradition of delivering a design that mirrors its premium siblings, but at a lower cost. The Galaxy S25 FE is more compact and more than 10% lighter than last year’s Galaxy S24 FE. It measures 6.35 x 3.02 x 0.29 inches and weighs just 6.70 ounces, down from the S24 FE’s 7.51 ounces.
The device combines Armor Aluminum framing with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on both the front and back. During hands-on time, the FE felt light yet sturdy, though there’s a minor lip where the matte back panel meets the frame, something design perfectionists might notice.
Like its siblings, the phone is IP68-rated for dust and water resistance. It includes a USB-C port, SIM tray, volume rocker, and power button on the right side, while the triple-camera array sits neatly on the back.
Samsung offers four color options: Icyblue, Jetblack, Navy, and White, all maintaining a sleek, understated aesthetic.
Display: Big, Bright, and Fast But Not the Brightest
The Galaxy S25 FE features a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, the same size and spec as its predecessor. The screen offers:
- Resolution: 2,340 x 1,080 pixels
- Refresh Rate: Adaptive 60Hz–120Hz
- Peak Brightness: 1,900 nits
While this panel delivers vibrant colors and smooth scrolling, it’s noticeably less bright than the flagship Galaxy S25 models, especially under direct sunlight. Indoors, however, the experience is crisp and responsive, and the size makes it great for media consumption and multitasking.
Hardware and Performance: Good Enough for Most
Samsung has made deliberate trade-offs to keep the S25 FE’s price lower. Under the hood, it runs on Samsung’s Exynos 2400 processor, the same chip used in the international Galaxy S24 and S24+ models, rather than Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite found in the S25 series.
Other key specs include:
- RAM: 8GB
- Storage: 128GB ($649.99) or 256GB ($709.99)
- Battery: 4,900mAh
- Charging: 45W wired (65% in 30 min), wireless and reverse wireless supported
While Exynos chips traditionally lag behind Qualcomm in raw performance, Samsung’s optimization may ensure smooth day-to-day operation. Heavy multitasking or high-end gaming, however, may expose its limits something we’ll confirm in full benchmarking later.
The Galaxy S25 FE supports:
- 5G (sub-6GHz only no C-band or mmWave)
- Bluetooth 5.4
- Wi-Fi 6E
- Dual SIM support (one physical SIM + one eSIM)
The limited 5G support means it won’t achieve the same top-tier network speeds as the regular Galaxy S25 models, which support all 5G bands. For most users, though, sub-6GHz 5G should suffice for smooth browsing and streaming.
Cameras: Familiar Hardware, Upgraded Selfies
Samsung hasn’t changed much about the rear camera system from the S24 FE. You still get:
- 50MP main camera (f/1.8)
- 12MP ultra-wide (f/2.2)
- 8MP telephoto (f/2.4) with 3x optical zoom
These sensors are solid but were not standout performers on the S24 FE. Any noticeable improvement will likely come from image processing upgrades rather than hardware leaps.
The front camera, however, gets a welcome boost now 12MP (f/2.2), up from 10MP. Selfies and video calls should look sharper, and video recording supports up to 4K at 60 fps.
The Galaxy S25 FE ships with Android 16 and Samsung’s One UI layered on top. It will receive seven years of OS and security updates impressive longevity for a semi-budget device.
Most notably, the S25 FE includes Samsung’s Galaxy AI suite, previously limited to the flagship models. Features include:
- Call Assist — real-time translation of voice calls.
- Writing Assist — AI-powered text suggestions and formatting.
- Photo Editing Tools — AI-based image generation and manipulation.
We’ll be watching closely to see how well these AI features run on the less powerful hardware compared to the main S25 lineup.
Pricing and Availability
The Galaxy S25 FE is available starting September 4, priced at:
- $649.99 (128GB)
- $709.99 (256GB)
Given the seven-year software promise, premium build, and inclusion of Galaxy AI, the S25 FE may hit a sweet spot for users wanting a flagship-like experience at a midrange price.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 FE looks like the best-balanced Fan Edition yet. It sacrifices raw performance and certain connectivity perks but delivers premium design, a great display, long-term software support, and AI smarts, all for $150 less than the standard S25.
For anyone seeking Samsung’s latest features, especially Galaxy AI, without splurging on flagship pricing, the S25 FE could be the most practical choice in the Galaxy S25 family.
