31 December, 2015, Delhi: NDTV is yet to launch ‘Smartcooky’ its ecommerce portal for healthy food and personal care but certainly, the company’s portal has allured the investors’ interest. In its recent round of funding, Smartcooky has managed to raised an undisclosed amount in angel investment at a valuation of US $ 12 million.
NDTV entered into an online business in 2013 when the company launched its portal called IndianRoots, a marketplace for ethnic wear. The idea was backed up by Mumbai based KJS Group as it invests US $ 5 million in the company over the valuation of US $85 million. After tasting the success with IndiaRoots, company floated its second venture into the ecommerce business called Gadgets360. The portal which focuses on gadgets and electronic segment, triggered a spark and managed to raise funding from several investors.
The Smartcooky funding round was attended by angel investors including Rajan Anandan (Google India & South Asia, MD), Pramod Bhasin (former CEO of Genpact), Siddharth Pai, son of former Infosys CFO and chairman of Manipal Group Education and Manvinder Singh Banga (former Unilever boad member and currently senior partner with private investor Clayton Dubilier & Rice).
