Tesla Inc. green up pointing triangle announced the establishment of its international engineering command center in Palo Alto, California, a nation that Chief Executive Elon Musk has criticized at times. Mr. Musk relocated Tesla’s headquarters from Silicon Valley to Texas in 2021, citing the company’s limited capacity for growth in the Bay Area of San Francisco at the time. He previously compared California to a sports franchise that becomes complacent and entitled after an undefeated streak, saying, “they do tend to get a little bored, a little obligated, and then they don’t win the championship anymore.”
Mr. Musk struck a more upbeat tone on Wednesday evening, declaring at a Palo Alto event that the company would “build the future here.” Mr. Musk stated that Tesla has maintained a presence in Silicon Valley despite moving its headquarters to Texas, and that it employs approximately 48,000 people in California. As of the end of the fiscal year, this amounted to more than a third of the company’s global workforce. Many of those workers are based in Fremont, California, which is home to the company’s first car plant.
According to Tesla, the facility has the capacity to produce approximately 650,000 vehicles per year.
Since then, the company has established vehicle manufacturing facilities in China, Texas, and Germany. Mr. Musk stated on Wednesday that Tesla will continue to invest in California even as it expands elsewhere. Tesla has laid off employees in California over the last year. Tesla laid off more than 200 employees last year when it closed an office in San Mateo, California. The facility housed employees who worked on Tesla’s advanced driver-assistance system, Autopilot.
Mr. Musk’s car company is expanding in order to meet his goal of selling 20 million vehicles per year by the end of the decade. Tesla announced in January that it was considering $775 million in expansions at its Austin-area plant. Mr. Musk’s other businesses are also well-represented in California. Twitter Inc. is headquartered in San Francisco, while SpaceX is headquartered in Hawthorne.
Tesla Inc. is expanding its operations in California by locating its international engineering offices in Palo Alto. Elon Musk, the company’s CEO, relocated the company’s headquarters from Silicon Valley to Texas in 2021, quoting restricted scalability in the Bay Area.
PROBLEMS WITH TESLA COMPANY
Hundreds of reports of unexpected acceleration, brake failures, and “whompy wheels” – collapsing wheels caused by faulty car suspension – have been received. These safety and quality issues have been exacerbated by Tesla’s customer service’s long wait times.
