Can you believe it? The PlayStation 6 could be arriving as soon as 2026, while the PS5 is already in our hands. But the notion of a new console launching in the market within the year has left many gamers baffled.
Mobiles Are Coming Too Soon Consoles
The current generation PlayStation5 was released in 2020 and we are already going through rumors on the PlayStation 6 as estimated to be released in 2026 or early 2027. That’s just six years difference in console releasing! What might seem like a normal gap, definitely feels like it is way shorter since let’s admit it, this generation of gaming isn’t even started yet. PS5 and Xbox Series X, thanks to the pandemic, and different delays in game development, feel like these consoles have a large number of unexplored opportunities.
A Race Between Giants
There is no doubt that Sony and Microsoft are like two marathon runners who keep their looking behind all the time. Microsoft is already devising its next Xbox and, while we should reserve judgment until further notice, some sources are suggesting it will offer a technology advancement of a kind, however, we are assuming until Microsoft offers us the ability to play games on cold fusion then we can safely assume that this is stretching things somewhat. Of course, it’s not that Sony would let it stand for Microsoft to have a head start like that. They still recall how the Xbox 360 launched years ahead of the PlayStation 3, and are not willing to let that happen again.
This means if the Xbox is coming up with a new console in 2026, then you can be certain that Sony will either launch or give a close call with the PlayStation 6.
Where Are the Games?
The major issue gamers have is their failure to get first-party exclusives for either the PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series X. Even today we have not had many games that are taxing both these consoles to their potential extent, and it makes us wonder why there is so much hurry to look forward to the next generation. Now that developers have not yet been given enough time to develop games that fully harness the potential of these consoles, we are already preparing for the next generation of games.
Some people have claimed that this generation of console has problems.
The decline in console sales is not because people are tired of the PS5 or Xbox Series X. It’s because there aren’t good, attractive games that invest their attention and can captivate them all the time. Rather than releasing a new console, wouldn’t it serve the greater purpose to build quality games for these existing ones? So it appears that already both companies are headlong, releasing new consoles, while forgetting about the problem itself – the games!
Are We Ready for This?
It’s like we’ll jump to two years later and be looking at the official PlayStation 6 release date, all the while questioning if most of what was developed is just remastered PS5 games. This is comparable to wanting a second chance when in fact what one is desiring is a brand new opportunity. In fact most gamers are probably not in a position to start another console generation all over again just yet.
Final Thoughts
It is both exciting and daunting to look at the possibility of having the PlayStation 6 in two years. At the same time, that opens the door for many interesting and delightful thoughts for what a next-generation console could mean. But on the other hand, it takes the feeling like we are impatiently rushing into it without giving the current generation a chance.
So, as we wait for official announcements and more stats from both Sony and Microsoft, let’s hope the companies realize what gamers truly want: bigger quality games and an opportunity to appreciate the consoles that are already in the market. And we know that because at the end of the day the name of the game is not the sleek piece of hardware you’re holding in your hand but the fun that you are having with it.
