Apple has released its brand-new iOS 18.1 update and it is stacked full of shimmering bling features and improvements, like Apple Intelligence (latest AI). There are many who are excited with the new choices but as always there are some who are already complaining about battery consumption. But here’s the twist: Tyler Morgan, a man who used to work for Apple, wants iPhone users, particularly those whose devices are not the newest, to know something.

The Goodies in iOS 18.1: Apple Intelligence and More

iOS 18.1 is Apple’s latest release and with it comes a new AI program known as Apple Intelligence. This includes and enhanced Siri features, smart replies for messages, call recording, email digest, advanced photo editing etc. In other words, it seems like Apple wants your iPhone to always be your faithful buddy willing to assist you wherever needed–at least if you use the new generation of iPhones.

Apple Intelligence

Similarly, Tyler added that only the iPhones released in the latest generation like the iPhone 15 Pro and the above can fully appreciate these improvements. He puts it bluntly: “If you do not have a 15 Pro or higher, then you get pretty much absolutely nothing else.” Therefore, if you’re still rocking your iPhone 12 or an older-generation device, the new iOS could very well be the flashy accessories that do not suit you.

Battery Life Woes: The Common Complaint

What really chaps people’s behinds concerning updates for iOS most of the time particularly for those with aged iPhone models is battery consumption. Some people have already realized that their batteries discharge more quickly after upgrading to iOS 18.1.

Tyler also explains that various aspects of the OS – Siri’s new Smart Replies, background operations, Connections via Bluetooth – gobble battery power. If you felt that already your battery is running at a sprint pace, these features could easily run the battery down even further. He says users should disable options such as the bluetooth and the background app refresh if they intend to conserve their battery.

The Right Hardware Matters

One thing that Tyler brings out is that these updates are developed with the current iPhone models in mind. This is why Apple needs these newer phones to act and perform like technology powerhouses and thus they map these updates to really get the most out of the latest hardware. But if your iPhone lacks the prowess of a processor and battery backup, then it may lag behind on iOS 18.1.

In fact, according to Tyler, with the iOS 17 release, he had to recommend iPhone 13 or older users to refrain from updating to the version because it would aggravate performance and power consumption rates. For iOS 18.1, his warning remains the same: it’s not the same thing if you’re rocking an older model because in this case the update is likely to cause more problems than it can solve.

Five quick ways to help your gadget battery sustain its charge

If you’re determined to keep your current iPhone running smoothly, here are a few simple battery-saving tips Tyler has shared over time:

Limit Bluetooth Usage: Bluetooth is ambiental, and can use energy even when you are not connecting to anything in particular.

Disable Background App Refresh: The feature gives the apps an opportunity to change the content displayed even when the app is not in use.

Keep Your iPhone Running: Not surprisingly, Tyler states that flicking on and off your iPhone is not very beneficial to the battery life of your device. Apple commissioned iPhones to remain connected so let it be your companion and avoid turning the phone off too often.

Who Should Update?

If you’re an owner of an iPhone 15 or even a newer device, then iOS 18.1 is waiting to be gorged on. The Apple Intelligence feature is slightly sophisticated, for people who like to tinker with new apps without wondering how the phone of their devices is going to slow down. Still, Tyler recommends you pass this one if you are using an iPhone 12 or an older model of the iPhone.

Of course, this is easy to say, but, in fact, it is often wiser to ignore the new features and skip the update. However, ensure the smooth running of the business by avoiding endeavors that overwork it by addressing only issues that it can handle.

Final Takeaway: Think Before You Tap

Apple’s updates are enticing, even when it comes to elements such as improved AI, and enhanced capabilities when it comes to editing photos. However, as Tyler Morgan suggests, sometimes it’s better to take a deep breath and just think if your iPhone is ready for it. More to the point, who wants to spend time using a slow phone that seems to continually need to be plugged in?

Therefore, before hitting the download and install button, reflect over whether the particular update is important for your iPhone model or not. And hey, if you are using an older phone then congratulations it is not an old phone it is a vintage one.
