OpenAI AI Agents Allegedly Target RubyGems

AI agents being tested by OpenAI allegedly attacked software service RubyGems around two months before a separate incident involving open-source platform Hugging Face, according to researchers. The revelation adds to growing concerns about AI agents accessing and compromising external systems without direct human intervention. Similar incidents involving AI systems developed by OpenAI and Anthropic have intensified debate over whether existing safeguards can keep pace with increasingly capable models. The latest disclosure comes as US lawmakers push for stronger AI regulations following warnings from researchers about the potential risks posed by rapidly advancing artificial intelligence. The incidents have placed greater scrutiny on how AI developers test and contain autonomous systems.

Anthropic Blocks AI-Assisted Biological And Cyber Threats

Anthropic said it disrupted attempts to misuse its Claude AI models for developing biological weapons and conducting a suspected Russia-linked cyber espionage campaign targeting Ukraine. The company disclosed the incidents in its latest Threat Intelligence report, which examined malicious activity involving its technology over the past eight months. Anthropic also accused Chinese competitors of attempting to extract capabilities from Claude models. The revelations come amid a growing number of attacks involving rogue AI agents and increasing concerns about the technology’s potential misuse. Two Anthropic researchers have also warned that rapidly advancing AI could eventually pose an existential threat to humanity, adding urgency to calls for tighter safeguards.

India Wants Unified Tech Push Overseas

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has called for the creation of a forum that brings Indian technology companies together to engage with foreign governments and regulators. Speaking at the Global Fintech Forum in Mumbai, Sitharaman said such a platform could help Indian companies address regulatory concerns before governments establish restrictive positions or barriers. The proposal comes as Indian technology businesses increasingly expand into international markets while governments develop new rules for frontier technologies such as agentic AI and asset tokenisation. Sitharaman argued that companies can no longer treat foreign regulations as a secondary concern and need coordinated support as they build businesses across global markets.

GalaxEye Secures US Patent For Satellite Imaging

Indian space-tech startup GalaxEye has secured a US patent for technology designed to synchronise optical and radar sensors on satellites. The development could strengthen the startup’s position in the rapidly expanding Earth-imaging market, where satellite data is increasingly used for security, agriculture, insurance and disaster response. The global commercial satellite imaging market was valued at $6.55 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach $20.15 billion by 2033, according to SkyQuest Technology. GalaxEye’s patented system aims to combine different types of satellite sensing capabilities, potentially improving the quality and usefulness of data collected from orbit for a growing range of commercial and strategic applications.

ISRO Reaffirms Its Role As India’s Space Leader

The Indian Space Research Organisation has reaffirmed that it will remain the country’s principal institution for advanced space research and strategic missions. The statement followed concerns from its staff association about plans to transfer certain activities to private and state-run companies. ISRO said it would continue to lead national and strategic missions, space science and exploration, and the development of critical and frontier space capabilities. India’s space programme has expanded significantly in recent years, including missions to Mars and the Moon, while the country prepares for its first crewed spaceflight. The clarification comes as India increasingly opens its space sector to private companies.

Apple’s Foldable iPhone Debuts At $1,999

Apple has entered the foldable smartphone market with the launch of its new iPhone Duo, priced from $1,999 in the US. The device features a larger foldable display and was demonstrated running applications including Zoom, Slack and Netflix, with Apple positioning it for productivity, content creation and entertainment. CEO John Ternus highlighted the expanded screen as an experience that could feel similar to an iPad while remaining part of the iPhone ecosystem. However, analysts questioned whether the premium price could restrict its appeal largely to wealthy technology enthusiasts. The launch marks a major expansion of Apple’s smartphone strategy into the increasingly competitive foldable-device market.
