Why Fragmented Financial Markets Are Giving Way to Unified Access, and Where CGM NEO Fits In

Forex, shares, commodities, indices and digital assets have traditionally lived in separate financial environments. As market access becomes increasingly connected, CGM NEO reflects a growing demand for multi-asset platforms built around choice rather than fragmentation.

Why Fragmented Financial Markets Are Giving Way to Unified Access, and Where CGM NEO Fits In

For decades, accessing different financial markets often meant navigating different systems. A client interested in currencies might use one platform, while shares, commodities or digital assets could require separate accounts, interfaces and service relationships. The markets themselves may be global, but the way people access them has frequently remained fragmented.

That fragmentation is becoming increasingly difficult to justify in a digital financial environment. Clients now expect technology to reduce unnecessary complexity, not create more of it. This is helping drive interest in unified multi-asset access, where different market categories can be accessed through a more connected platform experience.

CGM NEO, the digital platform from Continental Global Markets, sits within this broader shift. Rather than being built around a single market category, CGM NEO provides access to more than 2,000 instruments across six asset classes: forex, metals, shares, indices, commodities and digital assets.

The significance of that structure is choice. A client does not need to define a financial relationship solely around one asset class. More than 55 currency pairs sit alongside instruments from other markets, creating a broader environment in which different categories can be accessed through the same CGM trading platform.

This does not mean that different markets behave in the same way. They do not. Each asset class carries its own characteristics and risks. The value of a multi-asset environment is therefore not simplification of the markets themselves, but simplification of how clients can reach them.

That distinction is important. A unified platform should not encourage the idea that every market is interchangeable. Instead, it gives clients a more connected infrastructure through which they can access the categories that are relevant to them, without building an entirely separate digital relationship for each one.

The convergence is particularly visible in the relationship between traditional financial markets and digital assets. For many years, these categories developed through largely separate ecosystems. Today, the expectation of accessing digital assets alongside established markets such as metals, indices and currencies is becoming part of the wider discussion around modern financial platforms.

CGM NEO brings these categories together while maintaining multiple ways to access the platform. MetaTrader 5 is available across desktop, web and mobile, alongside the Continental Neo App and Continental AI Terminal. The technology is designed to support access across different devices and client workflows rather than forcing every user into a single interface.

Behind the platform is infrastructure designed for the demands of a multi-market environment. The CGM brokerage uses sub-1ms order routing through an STP/ECN hybrid model supported by tier-1 aggregated liquidity. These technical elements provide the operating foundation for the platform’s broader market-access proposition.

For Continental Global Markets, which has operated since 2006, the move toward unified access reflects a practical response to how financial technology is changing. The question is no longer simply which markets a platform can offer. Increasingly, it is how effectively different market categories can be brought into a coherent client experience.

CGM NEO’s proposition is built around that idea. Forex, metals, shares, indices, commodities and digital assets can exist within the same broader platform relationship, giving clients access to a market range that reflects the increasingly connected nature of modern finance.

The shift away from fragmentation will not eliminate the differences between financial markets, nor should it. But technology can change the way access is organised. The platforms likely to remain relevant will be those that reduce unnecessary barriers while preserving meaningful choice.

The multi-asset proposition of CGM NEO illustrates that direction. In a financial world that has historically separated markets into distinct digital environments, unified access is becoming an increasingly important part of how the next generation of financial platforms is being designed.

Trading forex, CFDs and digital assets carries a high level of risk and may not be suitable for all investors.
