BMW has launched the most affordable M model, the M2 Competition, in India today with the pricing starting from ₹ 79.90 lakh without any options selected. With the prices this low, buyers who didn’t want to go over a crore mark will now have an option to have an M car under their budget.
The M2 Competition has received really great feedback all around the globe and is considered as one of the best M cars BMW has ever made. The 2-door sports car packs a 3-litre, inline 6-cylinder twin-turbocharged engine that churns out a whopping 410 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque, all going exclusively to the rear wheels.
Sadly, BMW won’t offer the globally available manual gearbox in India and the M2 Competition will only be sold with a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox. With the quick automatic shifts, the sports saloon sprints from 0-100 km/h in just 4.2-seconds before hitting the limited top speed of 250 km/h.
Apart from the performance, the sporty nature of the M2 Competition is highlighted in the cabin too. It gets a new M-style instrument cluster with red needles and white illumination. Also there is the M steering wheel wrapped in leather, a red ignition button, M2 badges and M seatbelts. M2 Sports seats are available as an additional option.
The kind of character and power the M2 Competition has, there is no direct competition for the model in the India market. However, with the similar price range, it might have to steal the rich buyers’ heart over the Porsche 718 and the much popular Ford Mustang.
