June 10, 2016:  Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, has invested an undisclosed amount in his personal capacity in e-ticketing startup Kyazoonga, which plans to use the funds to expand into international markets including the United States, West Asia, Pakistan and the Caribbean Islands.

Kyazoonga founder Neetu Bhatia, an MIT graduate said,  “We have our own IP and ticketing technology platform that enabled us to scale up domestically.”  She also said, “We largely focus on sporting and entertainment events, not really movies. That’s how we differentiate ourselves from the existing players in the market.”

Besides focusing on the ticketing market in India and domestic sporting leagues such as Indian Premier League and the Pro Kabaddi League, Kyazoonga has ticketed international events like the ICC Cricket World Cup and the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and is likely to be a ticketing partner for the Rio 2016 Olympics as well. Kyazoonga competes with Mera Events and BookMyShow, among others.
Launched in 2007, the platform sold more than 25 million tickets in 2015, according to the company and focuses on developing partnerships with sports franchises, music concert promoters and event organisers. Although not into movie ticket booking, Kyazoonga still competes with players like BookMyShow and MeraEvents in India.
