The GSMA Mobile World Congress that was established about 30 years back as GSM World Congress is a combination of the world’s largest exhibition for the mobile industry, representing the interest of mobile operators worldwide.
It is a conference that unites nearly 800 operators with almost 300 companies, equipment providers and internet companies, as well as organizations in adjacent industry sectors. An annual event, which usually takes place in the month of February, GSMA works on projects and initiatives addressing the collective interests of the mobile industry.
This year the event took place from February 27 to March 2 in Barcelona, Spain, the GSMA Mobile World Capital, under the theme “Mobile: The Next Element”. The conference saw the presence of some very renowned keynote speakers like Travis Johnson (Global CEO, ANSIBLE), Sunil Bharti Mittal (Chairman, GSMA and Founder and Chairman, Bharti Enterprises), Mats Granryd (Director General, GSMA), Reed Hastings (Founder and CEO, Netflix) Rajiv Suri (President and CEO, Nokia) and many more.

This huge tech event is a chance for the mobile and other adjacent industries to unveil their new inventions and launch new gadgets. The Mobile World Congress, this year, saw the return of both Nokia and Blackberry to the world of Smartphone and with that the re-launch of Nokia’s iconic 3310 handset. Along with this major comeback, Nokia also launched Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 Android phones.

Blackberry launched the Blackberry KEYone which sports the features of both the touch screen response of a smartphone and the physical keyboard that once made the company an icon. The new mobile phone runs Android 7.1 Nougat software with the companies numerous productivity and security optimizations like the BlackBerry Hub and DTEK security app.

The tech giant, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Tab S3 having a 9.7 inch display and a 4K- capable resolution. It also revealed a new 2-in-1 tablet hybrid, Galaxy Book, which runs Windows 10 and is equipped with what is called the Pogo Keyboard Cover, to replicate a laptop setup. Both the gadgets come with the S Pen Stylus in the box.

As expected, Huawei launched the P10 and P10 Plus in Barcelona. The flagship smartphones will be available in as many as eight color options and offers a lot more than its predecessor in terms of design, processor, camera and software. Huawei also launched the Watch 2 at the event. Alongside, the company also came up with a slew of smartphone cases for the newly launched phones, and a purse for the phone aka “Limited Edition Pouch”.

The Taiwanese company, Lenovo, in a bid to provide users with new and interesting options released the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus. The smartphones have been designed to ensure that the mid- range series becomes a state-of- the- art smartphone.

Sony unveiled three of its new creations, the XA1 Ultra, the Sony Xperia XA1 and the exceptional Sony Xperia XZ Premium. What’s so special about the XZ Premium is that it has a 4K screen that supports HDR as well! The camera has its own RAM to improve performance and what’s more interesting is the fact that it supports a 960fps slow- motion video which is a pretty huge leap since iPhone 7 supports only upto 240fps.
The Mobile World Congress event witnessed many comebacks and also some exceptionally impressive inventions this year. It has always been a great platform providing the likes of Samsung, Lenovo and other tech giants with an opportunity to reveal their creations and launch something new in the market.
