How to Airplay from Mac

AirPlay was first launched by Apple almost a decade ago, but it is still one of the most simple methods to exchange media across Apple devices and other compatible computers.

AirPlay is a function that allows Apple devices (most notably iPhones) to exchange media (such as movies, pictures, and music) with other devices such as TVs and monitors for dual screen mode, as long as they’re all connected to the same network. This implies that AirPlay can only operate if both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, within Bluetooth range, or utilising an ethernet cable to connect to the same router.

If you want to broadcast music from your iPhone to a Bluetooth speaker, AirPlay is a straightforward method to do so. The same is true for videos: if you’re watching a YouTube video on your iPad and want to see it on a bigger screen, AirPlay is the easiest method to keep your viewing experience seamless.

AirPlay mirroring is similar to Apple’s AirPlay, except screen mirroring copies a whole display to another device, such as a projector or TV.

Here’s how to use AirPlay on your Mac to share music, images, movies, or just mirror your full computer screen on a larger display.

  • Open System Preferences by selecting “System Preferences” from the drop-down menu after clicking the Apple symbol in the menu bar at the top of your screen.
  • Find and choose the “Displays” icon, which resembles a computer monitor, in System Preferences.
  • Tick the box beside “Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available.”

On the Displays tab, next to “AirPlay Display,” there is a drop-down choice that will automatically be set to “Off.” This does not suggest that AirPlay is disabled; rather, it indicates that you are not actively AirPlaying your screen.

Your whole Mac screen may be mirrored onto an Apple TV or another AirPlay-compatible device, such as an iPad or some smart TVs.

There are two options for accomplishing this.

From the menu bar, select:

  • To begin, make sure your Mac is on the same Wi-Fi network as the device you want to AirPlay to. Ensure they’re simultaneously logged into the same Apple ID account if you’re AirPlaying to an iPad.
  • Click the AirPlay icon, which looks like a rectangle with an arrow at the bottom, in the menu bar at the top of your Mac’s screen.
  • Choose the device you wish to AirPlay to from the drop-down menu.
  • A passcode may display on the screen of your smartphone. On your Mac, enter it into the pop-up box.
  • After that, your Mac should start mirroring its screen to the device you chose.
  • To turn off AirPlay, click the AirPlay symbol once more in the menu bar and select “Turn AirPlay off” from the drop-down menu.

From System Preferences:

  • Click “Displays” in System Preferences.
  • Click the drop-down next to “AirPlay Display” on the Displays page.
  • Select the device you wish to AirPlay to from the drop-down menu.
  • A passcode may display on the screen of your smartphone. On your Mac, type it into the pop-up box.
  • After that, your Mac should start mirroring its screen to the device you chose.
  • To turn off AirPlay, pick “Off” from the drop-down menu next to “AirPlay Display.”

Troubleshoot AirPlay on Mac

  • The most common mistake made when attempting to utilise AirPlay from a Mac to an Apple TV or other AirPlay-compatible device is not connecting both devices to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • If things are still not working, click System Preferences, go to “Security & Privacy,” and choose “Firewall.” Check to see if the “Firewall” is turned off.
  • It’s also possible that your devices are out of date; make sure your Mac and the device you’re AirPlaying to are both up to date.
  • The final step in troubleshooting is to simply restart all of your gadgets, including your internet modem.
