The web sites of numerous Russian media outlets had been hacked on Monday, Reuters checks showed, with their normal sites being replaced by an anti-war message and calls out to President Vladimir Putin to stop his invasion of Ukraine.

“Dear citizens. We urge you to stop this madness, do not send your sons and husbands to certain death,” the message read. “Putin is forcing us to lie and is putting us in danger.”

The internet site of Russian state news firm TASS, along with news web sites rbc.ru, kommersant.ru, fontanka.ru and iz.ru of the Izvestia outlet all suffered outages, with many of them showing the above message.

Ceasefire talks among Russian and Ukrainian officers started out at the Belarusian border on Monday as Russia faced deepening monetary isolation 4 days after invading Ukraine.

Russia says its forces have intervened in Ukraine in a “special military operation” to demilitarise the country. The state communications regulator has warned the local media outlets and overseas tech companies against what it says are fake depictions of Russia’s activities in content posted online.

They have been isolated from the globally, they’ve stopped buying oil and gas. In some years would be able to be living like North Korea according to the message. “What is this for? So that Putin can get into the history books? It’s not our war, let’s stop him!”

Some Russian media outlets stated Anonymous, the amorphous online activist network that first grabbed international interest approximately a decade ago, was liable for the hack.
