Swiggy has appointed former Myntra chief executive Nandita Sinha as the new CEO of its quick-commerce business Instamart, bringing an experienced consumer internet executive into one of India’s most competitive digital commerce sectors. Sinha will take charge of Instamart from August 3, 2026, succeeding Amitesh Kumar Jha, who resigned from the company to pursue opportunities outside Swiggy. Jha’s resignation took effect immediately on July 28.

The leadership change comes at an important time for Instamart, which is competing aggressively with Blinkit, Zepto and other fast-growing quick-commerce businesses. The sector has expanded rapidly in India as consumers increasingly use apps to order groceries, household products, electronics and other everyday items for rapid delivery.

Swiggy’s decision to bring Sinha into the role reflects the company’s focus on strengthening Instamart’s next phase of growth. Her experience in fashion e-commerce, consumer businesses and large-scale digital operations is expected to be particularly relevant as Instamart works to expand its assortment, improve customer experience and build a more efficient business.

“I am delighted to welcome Nandita Sinha as the CEO of Instamart. Nandita is one of India’s most accomplished consumer internet leaders, and I’m enthusiastic about the vision, customer obsession and operational rigor she brings to the team we’ve built at Instamart.”~Sriharsha Majety, Managing Director & Group CEO, Swiggy

Who Is Nandita Sinha?

Nandita Sinha is a veteran consumer internet and business executive with more than two decades of experience spanning e-commerce, retail and fast-moving consumer goods. Before joining Swiggy, she served as the CEO of Myntra, the fashion e-commerce company owned by the Flipkart Group.

Sinha took over as Myntra’s CEO in January 2022 and became the first woman to lead the company since its founding. During her time at the helm, Myntra focused on strengthening its position in India’s online fashion market while expanding its customer base and improving its financial performance. The company also pushed further into technology-led personalisation and newer digital shopping experiences during her tenure.

Her professional career also includes leadership experience at companies such as Flipkart, Britannia and Hindustan Unilever. That combination of experience across established consumer brands and technology-driven businesses has made her one of India’s better-known consumer internet executives.

Sinha stepped down from her position at Myntra in April 2026, when Flipkart appointed Sharon Pais to lead the fashion business. Her move to Instamart now places her back in a high-growth consumer technology business, although in a market with a very different operating model from fashion e-commerce.

“I have long admired what the team at Instamart has built. It’s a business with a strong customer-first culture, great talent and significant opportunities ahead. I look forward to working with colleagues, partners and consumers to shape the platform’s next chapter of growth.”~Nandita Sinha

Why Her Appointment Matters for Instamart?

Sinha takes over Instamart at a time when quick commerce has become a major battleground in India’s online retail industry. The business model depends on a combination of dense dark-store networks, wide product selection, fast fulfilment and high customer frequency. Companies are investing heavily to expand their reach while attempting to improve profitability.

Instamart, launched in 2020, has expanded to more than 131 cities across India. The platform faces intense competition from Blinkit, owned by Eternal, and Zepto, while Amazon and Flipkart are also increasing their focus on quick-commerce services and expanding into smaller cities.

The competitive environment makes Sinha’s experience in scaling consumer businesses particularly relevant. Swiggy will need to balance growth with operational efficiency while continuing to attract customers and increase the range of products available through Instamart.

Swiggy Group CEO Sriharsha Majety described Sinha as one of India’s leading consumer internet executives and highlighted the vision, customer focus and operational discipline she brings to the business. The company also acknowledged Jha’s contribution during his time at Instamart, saying he helped scale the business through an important period of growth and strengthened its operating culture.

“Amitesh has been instrumental in building a strong foundation for Instamart, scaling the business through a crucial phase of growth and sharpening our differentiation with initiatives such as Noice.”~Sriharsha Majety on outgoing CEO Amitesh Jha

A New Phase for Swiggy’s Quick-Commerce Business:

The appointment gives Sinha an opportunity to lead a business that is still evolving rapidly. Unlike fashion e-commerce, where purchasing decisions can take longer and product cycles are seasonal, quick commerce is built around frequent purchases and operational speed. Success depends heavily on availability, delivery efficiency, pricing and the ability to maintain customer loyalty.

For Swiggy, the immediate challenge will be to continue expanding Instamart while dealing with intense competition and the industry’s push toward sustainable economics. The company is also facing pressure from rivals that are expanding their own dark-store networks and delivery capabilities.

Sinha’s arrival therefore marks more than a routine leadership transition. It comes as India’s quick-commerce market enters a crucial stage, with established players fighting for scale and newer businesses looking to gain ground. With her background at Myntra, Flipkart, Britannia and Hindustan Unilever, Sinha brings experience across both traditional consumer businesses and digital commerce.

Her tenure at Instamart will now be closely watched as Swiggy seeks to strengthen its position in India’s rapidly expanding quick-commerce market and turn its scale into a more durable competitive advantage.
