02 March 2018, India:

Bharat Matrimony has acquired divorce oriented secondshaadi.com from Accentium Web Pvt. Ltd. The transaction size has not been disclosed yet.

Matrimoney.com also operates a platform for divorcees – DivorceeMatrimony.com

“DivorceeMatrimony is the largest player in this segment. SecondShaadi is one of the early movers in this space and has built a good brand name. Buying SecondShaadi will help us consolidate our offerings and help divorcees and widowers get wider choices than ever before,” said Murugavel Janakiraman, CEO of Matrimony.com.

SecondShaadi.com was launched by Vivek Pahwa, Ankur Warikoo and Umang in 2007. Ankur Warikoo left the startup in September 2010 and founded Nearbuy.

Accentium Web Pvt. Ltd had a lot of business. It owned a social networking site – DesiMartini.com, which was sold to Firefly eVentures (subsidiary of HT Media). The company also owned auto classifieds site Gaadi.com which was sold to MIH Group. Accentium sold price comparison site priceraja.com in 2017-18.

Bharat Matrimony was founded by Murugavel Janakiramanin 1996. It delivers matchmaking services to users in India and the Indian diaspora through its websites, mobile sites and mobile apps complemented by on-the-ground network of 140 retail centres in India. BharatMatrimony comprises a network of 15 regional portals. Matrimony.com was launched in 2001.
