Two Devil May Cry titles have been removed from Steam as Capcom looks to be permanently taking their original editions off the market. Though it has been over five years since Devil May Cry 5, the action-horror series that gave us gray-haired demon slayer Dante is still popular, and we can’t wait to spin up Ebony and Ivory for another adventure. We are still waiting on Devil May Cry 6. Unfortunately, Devil May Cry 3 and DMC 4’s original release versions have been abruptly delisted, so you’re out of luck if you want to play them.
The last time we saw Capcom’s action horror hack-and-slash game was Devil May Cry 5, which came out in 2019. on the release of the mobile spin-off Peak of Combat this year, Capcom appears to be preoccupied with Monster Hunter Wilds and perhaps, just maybe, Resident Evil Code Veronica or RE9. As a result, details regarding a potential DMC 6 are still sketchy. Though perhaps not as much as we would have liked, Devil May Cry’s designer is nonetheless paying some attention to the game.
DMC 3 and DMC 4 special editions are only removed from the steam. Different editions are still available
Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition and Devil May Cry 4 are no longer accessible on Steam as of this writing on Thursday, February 1. According to a check of Steam DB, both titles have been updated with a “publisher request” to be “retired,” meaning that none of them will likely ever make a comeback to the Valve store.
DMC3 and DMC4 are still available in different editions, though. Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition, released in 2015, is still available for purchase, and Devil May Cry 3 is a part of the HD Collection triple pack, which also includes the original three games. Devil May Cry 4’s initial, now-unlisted version’s Steam rating fell to “mostly negative” as a result of fans leaving poor reviews for earlier Capcom titles in protest of the company’s decision to safeguard Monster Hunter Rise with Enigma DRM. Try out some of the other top single-player games if you can’t wait for Devil May Cry 6, or get excited about the top PC games that will be released in 2024.
Devil May Cry 5 surpassed its predecessor earlier this year to become the action series’ best-selling installment. 3.7 million copies of the game have been sold since its March 2019 release on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. As of June 30, 2020, sales of the whole Devil May Cry series have topped 22 million copies.
Spec Ops: The Line was taken off from Steam as well
In actuality, the complete Devil May Cry series from the first to the fifth chapter can be bought on Steam right now; the only drawback is that the original versions of the two games described above are no longer accessible. Conversely, we informed you a few days prior that Spec Ops: The Line had also been taken down from Steam. Since Valve no longer offers the game in any other format, you will need to get in touch with alternative retailers like GOG and Humble Bundle. Even in this instance, nothing was foreseen, and it is hoped that the incidents listed are singular occurrences rather than the start of a bad pattern.
