How much Indian players spend on gambling?
TwitterWhatsappLinkedin

Online gambling is gaining traction worldwide, and every year, players spend more money than before on this type of online entertainment. There’s no shortage of enthusiasm for gaming in India, and international casinos are happy to provide local players with access to their finest games. They can provide slots, video poker, and online roulette for Indian players in a secure environment where punters can enjoy their games of choice. As the interest among players is growing, the authorities are preparing for legalizing gambling.

Encouraging Market Statistics and Analysis

In the absence of a clear legal framework, many online casinos operate in what is called a gray area. This doesn’t seem to have a deterring effect on Indian players who continue to enjoy online gaming at the edge of the law. This is one of the countries with the most extensive and fastest-growing Internet gambling markets, and it has tremendous potential for accelerated growth. The only thing that is currently holding India back to become a global powerhouse is the absence of gambling laws to regulate the market.

India’s real money gaming industry continues to grow at a rate of nearly 20% every year, and that’s in spite of the restrictive laws. At this pace, the most optimistic projections indicate a global value of almost $1 billion by the end of 2121. Since the market growth was tracked in 2015, a strong trend has developed, boosted by the improved access to the Internet. Rural areas have better access to the online environment, and nearly half a billion people are reported to use mobile devices routinely.

Mobile Gambling acts as a Catalyst for Growth

Online gambling operators are relying more than ever on the business brought by mobile device users. Slots, table games, and video poker games are easily accessible on smartphones and tablets powered by iOS and android operating systems. Indian players, just like their international counterparts, are relying heavily on mobile gadgets for online entertainment. The country has emerged as one of the fastest-growing markets in terms of mobile game installs, and this trend is only expected to gain more traction.

The percentage of mobile phone users in India has ballooned over the last couple of years, and it shows no signs of slowing down. Not only are Indian players spending more money every year, but they are also evenly spread among key demographics. The most active players are male over 20 and under 44 years old and located mainly in South India. As stated above, mobile devices are preferred over laptops and desktop computers by Indian players for online gambling entertainment.

Prohibitive Laws Under Scrutiny

In spite of Indian players spending larger amounts on Internet gambling, the government doesn’t bring more money to state coffers. That’s because gambling is illegal, therefore not subject to taxation in an industry that lacks the legal foundation. There are still people who look down on gambling as an immoral activity while urging lawmakers not to make changes to existing laws. The Public Gaming Act of 1867 is the one responsible for prohibiting land-based casinos; since it was passed more than a century before the Internet was invented, it obviously says nothing about online gambling.

Indian lawmakers have started to pay attention to the numbers that clearly indicate a growing appetite for gambling among Indian players. The wheels are in motion, but they are slowly spinning, and it can take a while until gambling is legal nationwide. For the time being, the interest in online games continues to grow in India, and so do the amounts spent by its citizens. International casinos are simply waiting for the legalization of gambling, to tap into the immense potential of the Indian market.
