Panthalus is one of the toughest encounters added to Palworld 1.0, but the fight becomes much easier once you understand its special capture mechanic. This Level 70 Water-type boss has a huge health pool, powerful attacks, and a strict 10-minute timer. More importantly, your goal is not simply to kill Panthalus. You need to reduce its health and capture it at the end of the encounter.

How to Unlock the Panthalus Fight

Before you can summon Panthalus, you need to progress through the 1.0 story and reach the quest connected to the Deserted Islet. Speak with the Ancient Civilization Researcher there to begin the preparation.

You must collect four Echobones from giant whale skeletons found across Palpagos Island. Once you have them, return to the researcher and obtain the recipe needed to create the Echoing Flute. Craft the flute at a suitable workbench, then return to the shrine on the Deserted Islet.

When everything is ready, use the Echoing Flute to summon Panthalus over the surrounding water.

Prepare for the Battle

Panthalus is a Water-type Pal, making Electric attacks particularly effective. Your equipment also matters because the boss has a massive amount of health and the battle has a time limit.

For a reliable setup, bring:

  • Strong Electric-type Pals for consistent damage.
  • A fast flying mount for movement and emergency escapes.
  • Your best late-game ranged weapon with plenty of ammunition.
  • Strong armor and a shield suited to endgame combat.
  • Several Pal Spheres for the final capture.

Flying Electric Pals are especially useful because they let you keep attacking while avoiding many attacks from the water.

How to Beat Panthalus

The safest strategy is to stay mobile throughout the encounter. The arena is surrounded by water, while Panthalus can cover large areas with its attacks. Staying airborne gives you more room to react and makes repositioning much easier.

During the first part of the fight, focus your attacks on the glowing crystal on Panthalus’ head. This is its major weak point, and landing accurate shots there can significantly improve your damage output.

Do not stand still after attacking. Panthalus can launch waves, bubbles, tornadoes, and other Water-based attacks that can quickly punish players who remain in one position. Watch the boss closely and move away as soon as you see a large attack forming.

Surviving the Second Phase

Panthalus becomes more aggressive after its health drops significantly. Its attacks become harder to avoid, and the fight can feel much more chaotic.

This is where a flying mount becomes extremely valuable. Keep enough distance to see incoming attacks, then move sideways or upward instead of flying directly toward the boss. Avoid staying underneath Panthalus because its body slam attacks can cause enormous damage.

If you are struggling, prioritize survival over constant attacks. The timer is important, but losing your position and getting knocked out wastes far more time.

How to Capture Panthalus

This is the most important part of the encounter. You are supposed to capture Panthalus rather than defeat it normally.

Keep damaging the boss until its health reaches the final sliver. At this point, stop attacking and throw a Pal Sphere. The capture is designed to succeed at this critical health stage, so there is no reason to waste your rarest spheres.

Be careful not to keep attacking after Panthalus reaches its capture threshold. The purpose of the battle is to weaken the boss and complete the capture sequence.

What Happens After the Fight

Once Panthalus is captured, you can use it as part of your progression toward the World Tree. Keeping Panthalus in your active party is important for continuing this section of the 1.0 story.
