How does the Gemini app work for Android?

Gemini has been made to act as your personal AI assistant, powered by Google, and helps you manage everything on the device effectively. You can ask for its help to write a message, create a file, find absolutely any information about anything, plan your calendar, and even more. It helps you manage your apps and their activities if you have given permission. But the recent news about it has been raising some serious questions. People have been receiving emails regarding Gemini being able to access their apps and emails now! If you, too, have received it, this is your sign to follow the guide. If not, you can still listen to your heart and make a wise decision.

Does Gemini steal personal data?

It collects your Gemini conversations, usage data, location info, and feedback to provide and improve its services. This is the bare minimum. A lot depends on the settings within, allowing certain permissions that then later become the reasons for certain data being used or read. But users can restrict it to some extent by altering the necessary settings. Till now, no news about Gemini stealing data has been available, but Gemini accessing every app and its data is a bit too much for users, as most of us feel.

Steps to disable the Gemini app on Android

If you want to disable Gemini on Android permanently, follow these steps. They are sorted into four prominent ways of dealing with the situation, so you can pick what suits you best.

By Changing the Default Assistant

  • Go to Settings and then click on Apps.
  • Find Default apps > Digital Assistant app.
  • Here, change the default from Gemini to Google Assistant or None. Whatever you want.

Disable the Gemini App

  • Go to Settings and then choose Apps.
  • Find and tap on Gemini.
  • If the option is available, tap Disable or Force Stop.

Manage the App Extensions

  • Open the Gemini app on the device that you are using.
  • Tap your profile picture and then click on Apps.
  • And now you can toggle off access for individual apps like WhatsApp and more and have a more airtight privacy module.

Turn off Gemini App Activity as a way

  • Open the Gemini app on your device.
  • Tap your profile picture located at the top corner of the screen.
  • Go to Gemini Apps Activity.
  • Toggle off the activity setting to disable. You can also delete past activity here, effectively managing your recorded data.

These are the methods that can work just fine for anybody choosing to disable Gemini. While the sole purpose of Gemini was to assist people on their phones and devices, this strong-spreading network of it has been questioned by users. It’s not necessary that the data is stored without your permission or is misused, but if you want to be safer, you can just choose to disable it.
