The Edge of Fate expansion is just around the corner, and Destiny 2 players everywhere are buzzing with excitement. Set to launch on July 15, 2025, this expansion promises a fresh wave of content, including a mysterious new destination, revamped gear systems, and a storyline that puts the enigmatic Nine front and center. Whether you’re a seasoned Guardian or just getting back into the game, preparing now will give you a major advantage when the expansion drops. Here’s everything you need to do to get ready.

One of the biggest changes coming with Edge of Fate is the complete overhaul of armor stats. The Mobility stat is being replaced with a new Weapons stat, which will boost reload speed, handling, and even damage against minor and major enemies. Any armor you currently own with high Mobility will automatically convert to this new stat, making it incredibly valuable.
Since stat tiers are being removed, every single point in a stat will matter more than ever. Stats can now go up to 200, and hitting 100 unlocks enhanced bonuses. For the Weapons stat, this means better ammo drops and increased boss damage—essential for endgame content. If you’re a Hunter, you’re already in a good spot, but Titans and Warlocks should start farming high-Mobility armor now to take full advantage of the new system.
Don’t Delete Your Vault Just Yet
With the introduction of tiered weapons, some players are panicking and clearing out their vaults, thinking their old god rolls will become useless. That’s not entirely true. While tier-five weapons will eventually outclass most current gear, getting perfect rolls will take time.
Tier-five weapons will have enhanced perks, better origin traits, and even unique cosmetics, but they won’t make your existing god rolls obsolete overnight. Some weapon archetypes might not even have strong tier-five versions at launch. So, hold onto your best weapons—especially crafted ones—until you’ve secured upgrades.
Stock Up on Exotic Engrams
Exotic armor isn’t getting the same tier treatment as legendary gear, meaning your current exotics will still be viable. However, with stats playing a bigger role, you’ll want multiple rolls to fine-tune your builds.
Start hoarding Exotic Engrams now. When the expansion launches, you’ll need to level up the Cryptarch to level 17 before you can focus the new exotic armor pieces. Decrypting stored engrams early will speed up this process, giving you a better shot at high-stat rolls right away.
Prep Bounties for a Fast Level-Up
If you’re aiming for the Day One raid, bounty prep is a must. Stacking completed bounties lets you claim a massive XP boost as soon as the expansion drops, helping you power-level quickly.
Focus on weekly bounties from destinations like the EDZ, Dreaming City, and Europa—they give the most XP. Avoid episodic bounties (from past seasons) since they’ll disappear at launch. Also, don’t fill your entire bounty log; leave room for new quests.
Take a Break If You Need It
Grinding nonstop can lead to burnout, and you don’t want to start Edge of Fate feeling exhausted. If you’ve already prepped your armor, weapons, and bounties, consider stepping away for a bit. The expansion will demand a lot of playtime, so a short break now will keep you fresh and ready for the new challenges ahead.
Wrap Up Time-Sensitive Content
Some activities and weapons won’t be available after Edge of Fate launches. If you’re missing any Adept weapons from Nightfalls or Trials, now’s the time to farm them. Check the weekly rotations and prioritize the ones you want.
Episodic weapons (like those from Echoes) are also leaving, so grab any craftable rolls you’ve been eyeing. Titles and Triumphs tied to older content should be completed now if you care about collections.
Understand the New Systems
Edge of Fate is introducing several major changes:
- Armor 3.0 – Set bonuses, subclass synergies, and modular upgrades will make buildcrafting deeper than ever.
- Non-linear campaign – Your choices will affect missions, dialogue, and even future storylines.
- Kepler, the new destination – This frozen planetoid features Metroidvania-style exploration, meaning you’ll unlock areas as you gain new abilities.
Familiarizing yourself with these mechanics now will help you hit the ground running.
