About Slime Key in Link’s Awakening
Slime Key is a thing you will need a little later in the game. That’s the one you need to get into the third dungeon, the Key Cavern or Key Dungeon. However, it does take some steps and a process to it. You first have to find Prince Richard’s villa, which is near Pothole Field. He’ll agree to give you access to his secret reward if you retrieve his five Golden Leaves that are scattered throughout Kanalet Castle. Yes, that’s the task you need to take care of! Once you bring all five back, he moves a statue in his villa, letting you into his backyard. That’s what we’ve been working for, so count it as an achievement. You’ll find an Owl Statue there, and you can just use your shovel to dig right in front of it and get your Slimey Key.
Steps to get the Slimey Key in Link’s Awakening
You already know the gist pretty much by now, but let us dive deeper into the steps that can help you get the Key.
Find Prince Richard
The first thing for you to do here is to find Prince Richard. Head to his villa near Pothole Field. He’s a guy who won’t help you unless you retrieve his treasure, so be prepared to complete a task.
Collect the Golden Leaves
He’ll task you with finding his five Golden Leaves that are scattered throughout Kanalet Castle. You have to find them and bring them back to him, and you’ll need the Ballad of the Wind Fish and a Shovel for the same.
Return the Leaves
Once you’ve got all five of them, bring them back to Prince Richard. He’ll be so happy that he moves a statue in his home, and you ultimately get what you want!
Reach the Secret Area
Go down the stairs the statue was hiding. After this, you have to enter a short cave that leads to his overgrown backyard, Pothole Field. That’s the spot!
Dig it up and keep clearing the path until you find an Owl Statue in the upper-left corner of your screen. Now, finally, grab your shovel and dig directly in front of the statue. This is the spot where you will ultimately find the Slime Key, as it will pop out of the ground on its own.
Pat your back! You’ve found the key and can use it now.
