If you’re playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 (BO7) Zombies and DREAD the appearance of OSCAR — you’re not alone. He’s one of the toughest “boss-style” enemies in the new mode, with flying drones shielding him and serious HP when the shields drop. But don’t worry — with the right strategy, weapons, and traps, you can take him down reliably. Here’s how to make that happen.
Why OSCAR is difficult
- OSCAR isn’t just a zombie — he arrives with multiple shield-granting drones, which actively protect him from damage. Until those drones are destroyed, bullets and normal damage barely scratch him.
- Even when the drones are gone, OSCAR remains tank-like, meaning you’ll need heavy firepower or special traps to finish him off.
- His spawn and respawn mechanics mean he can return a few rounds after being killed, so killing him once doesn’t end his threat forever.
Because of these factors, shooting him directly with standard guns rarely works — but there are better, more effective ways to dispatch him.
Prepare before you engage
Before you even think about hunting OSCAR:
- Upgrade your weapons to Pack-a-Punch level. Upgraded guns do much more damage and are far more reliable than base-level weapons.
- Equip strong ammo mods and gear that works for crowd control or clearing waves. These will help you survive initial zombie onslaughts while preparing for OSCAR.
- If possible, play with teammates; having others draw zombies or support you can make the fight far easier.
With these ready, you’re set to take on OSCAR when he appears.
Main strategies to kill OSCAR
Here are the three top methods players use to kill OSCAR — each depends on activating specific traps, dealing with drones first, and then delivering the final blow.
Sunlight Beam Trap (Pack-a-Punch Room)
- Turn on the power in the map.
- In the Pack-a-Punch room, shoot the steaming valves until they activate the room’s sunlight trap mechanism.
- Use the telescope near the organ, aim at the Sun, and enable the beam.
- Lead OSCAR onto the platform between the organ and Pack-a-Punch. Once the beam fires, OSCAR will be instantly vaporized — an instant kill.
This is widely regarded as the fastest, cleanest kill.
Cryo-Freeze + Rocket Blast (Museum / Rocket Trap)
- Equip Cryofreeze ammo mod.
- Locate the purple Aetherium crystals scattered across the map. Shoot them with Cryofreeze to get Absolute Zero shards (usually three needed).
- Lead OSCAR to the museum/rocket trap area.
- Place OSCAR behind the rocket and trigger it — the blast will kill him quickly.
Luminarium Overcharge Trap (Full Easter-Egg Method)
To unlock the special reward (the LGM-1 Wonder Weapon) — and still kill OSCAR — you’ll need to gather three special items:
- Damaged Drone (obtained after destroying OSCAR’s drones)
- Car Battery (shoot the hood of the truck known as “Ol’ Tessie” with a Pack-a-Punched gun)
- Aberrant Wires (from interacting with a blinking lamppost somewhere on the map)
Once you have these:
- Go to the Luminarium room and install the components.
- Lure OSCAR into the overcharge zone.
- Wait for the trap to finish — the overcharge kills him, and you get the LGM-1 weapon as a reward.
This method is more complex but is useful if you’re playing the full Easter-egg quest.
