About Verizon

Verizon is a telecommunications giant, currently the largest wireless provider in the U.S. Thousands of people are connected with it! They are known for their 4G LTE and 5G networks, as well as Fios fiber-optic internet, which is deemed quite good. While the only major branding that they have built on is that of a “reliable” network, they have recently made headlines due to a massive nationwide outage on January 14, 2026. The baffling part is that this event left millions in “SOS mode” and led the company to offer a $20 credit as an apology. This is something that we will be discussing in this article. If you too feel that you’ve been a part of it and are eligible for the outage, you can read the next sections to know how you can get it.

What is the recent Verizon outage about?

Recently, on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Verizon suffered a massive nationwide outage that lasted for about 10 hours. It stranded thousands of people digitally! Yes, Millions of people across the U.S., especially in major cities like New York, Houston, and more, saw their phones get stuck in “SOS mode.” Verizon has since confirmed that the cause was a software issue, and they had to take some time out to fix it, specifically denying rumors that it was a cyberattack. The company confirmed that it was a glitch rather than an attack. As an apology, they’re offering a $20 credit to those affected, which you have to manually “accept” in the My Verizon app in order to receive it. There is no other way, so stick to the app.

Steps to redeem Verizon Credit

If you, too, were stuck during the recent Verizon outage, here are the steps that you can follow to cash out the outage.

Wait for the Official Text

Verizon is sending out notifications in waves, and you’ll likely receive yours soon. You should receive a text message stating that your account is eligible for the $20 credit.

Use the My Verizon App

You must open the app on your primary device and make sure you are updated to the latest version from the App Store or Google Play. If not, you can update it right away and make the best out of it!

Find “Take Action” in the Menu

Now, on your Account Overview or Home screen, look for a notification banner or a red dot on a button labeled “Take Action” or “Mobile Actions.” This will trigger the rest.

Claim the Offer

Tap on the banner regarding the “Service Credit” and hit the “Redeem Now” or “Accept” button. This approves your consent to accept the amount by the company.

An Alternative – Chat

If the app isn’t working for you or the stated option doesn’t appear, log in to your account at Verizon.com and check the “Offers” section. You can also ask a live agent via the “Let’s Chat” feature to apply it for you. Once you have accepted it, the credit usually appears on your statement within 1–2 billing cycles.
