If you’ve heard people talk about a “Snap Wrapped,” they usually mean a year-end recap or summary of their photos and videos on Snapchat — similar to what Spotify does with “Spotify Wrapped.” The idea is a curated slideshow or story that collects some of your best moments over the year and displays them in a single, nostalgic package. But here’s the catch: Snapchat doesn’t always call it “Snap Wrapped,” and the experience can vary depending on where you live or how much you used the app.

Because there isn’t a guarantee of such a recap, many people assume “Snap Wrapped” simply refers to the built-in recap or year-end Story you may get if you use Snapchat regularly.

How to Check If You Have a Snapchat “Wrapped”

If you want to see whether you have a year-end summary (or “Snap Wrapped”), follow these steps:

  1. Open the Snapchat app and go to the main camera screen.
  2. Swipe up or tap the small memories/photos icon near the capture button to open the Memories tab.
  3. At the top of the Memories tab, look for a banner or card that says something like “A Look Back at [Year]” (for example “A Look Back at 2022”).
  4. If you see it, tap that banner to view your recap — a video or slideshow of selected photos and videos from the year.
  5. Once the recap plays, you may have options to edit it, save it to your device, or share it with friends.

If you don’t see such a banner, it could mean one of two things:

  • You don’t have enough saved Snaps or Memories for Snapchat to build a recap for you.
  • The recap feature hasn’t rolled out to your account yet — Snapchat sometimes releases such features gradually, not all users get them at the same time.

What If You Don’t Get a Snap Wrapped — You Can Build Your Own!

Because Snapchat doesn’t always guarantee an official “Wrapped,” many users create their own year-in-review. Here’s how you can make one yourself:

  • Go through Memories, pick your favorite photos and videos from the year.
  • Choose the ones that reflect your special moments — travels, friends, celebrations, simple everyday fun.
  • Compile them manually either by saving them to your phone or by posting them as a custom Story or slideshow.
  • Add captions, text, or even music (if Snapchat allows) to give the highlights a personal touch.

This DIY version becomes your own “wrapped” — a personal gallery of memories you can revisit anytime, even if Snapchat didn’t auto-generate a recap for you.

Why Snapchat Doesn’t Always Give Everyone a Wrapped

There are a few reasons why the “Wrapped” or year-in-review may not appear:

  • If you haven’t saved enough Snaps or Stories to disk (in Memories), there may not be enough content for Snapchat to compile into a recap.
  • The feature tends to roll out gradually, so even active users may miss it if their app version or region hasn’t received the update yet.
  • Snapchat’s algorithm picks moments based on what it thinks are meaningful photos/videos; sometimes it may miss or mislabel events. What feels important to you may be skipped or misinterpreted in the recap.

Because of this unpredictability, many users wind up making their own recap to best reflect their year.

Should You Save or Share Your Snap Wrapped?

If you get a Snapchat year-end recap:

  • Yes — save it: After viewing the recap, you usually have an option to save the video/slideshow to your phone. This way you get a permanent copy of your memories instead of relying on Snapchat’s limited availability.
  • Consider editing it: If the auto-generated version misses important moments, feel free to manually replace or rearrange photos/videos in Memories to make the recap more personal.
  • Share with care: If you share publicly, remember that what felt private earlier may become visible. Review privacy settings if you care about who sees your recap.
