Crafted weapons have always been among the most valuable tools in Destiny 2. They allow players to choose their favorite perks and gradually improve their gear over time. With the introduction of weapon tiers, Guardians can now take crafted weapons even further and upgrade them all the way to Tier 5.

Weapon tiers represent the overall quality of a weapon. Tier 5 is currently the highest level and offers the best version of a crafted weapon. A Tier 5 weapon provides enhanced bonuses and cosmetic improvements, making it a desirable goal for endgame players.
Unlike random drops, crafted weapons can reach Tier 5 through progression rather than luck. This means players who have invested time into weapon crafting do not have to start over.
Unlock The Weapon Pattern First
Before upgrading anything, you must own the pattern for the weapon you want to craft. Patterns are obtained by extracting progress from eligible weapons until the requirement is completed.
Once the pattern is unlocked, visit the Enclave and shape the weapon.
After crafting it, the weapon starts at Level 1 and gains experience whenever you:
- Defeat enemies.
- Complete activities.
- Use the weapon regularly.
- Spend resources to increase its level.
Weapon level plays a major role in unlocking higher tiers.
Level Up Your Crafted Weapon
The most important part of the process is increasing the weapon’s level. Higher levels unlock additional perks and eventually allow access to higher weapon tiers.
Fast ways to level weapons include:
- Vanguard activities.
- Seasonal activities.
- Nightfalls.
- Raid encounters.
- Defeating large groups of enemies.
- Completing missions while the weapon is equipped.
Consistent use will steadily increase the weapon level and prepare it for Tier upgrades.
Visit The Enclave
Once your weapon has reached the required level milestones, travel to the Enclave.
Interact with the Relic and choose the crafted weapon you want to improve. New upgrade options become available as the weapon reaches higher levels.
If the requirements have been met, you can increase the weapon tier step by step until it reaches Tier 5.
Older crafted weapons can also be upgraded, provided they satisfy the necessary level requirements.
Enhance Your Perks
Reaching Tier 5 does not automatically improve every perk on the weapon.
After increasing the tier, reshape the weapon again and upgrade its traits to their enhanced versions. Enhanced perks generally provide slightly stronger effects or additional benefits.
Many players combine Tier 5 status with enhanced perks to create the strongest possible version of their favorite weapon.
Best Weapons To Upgrade First
Because leveling weapons takes time, it is smart to prioritize weapons that you use frequently.
Popular categories include:
- Auto rifles.
- Hand cannons.
- Pulse rifles.
- Rocket launchers.
- Submachine guns.
- Fusion rifles.
Focus on weapons that are useful in raids, dungeons, Nightfalls, or Crucible matches. Investing resources into weapons you rarely use is usually inefficient.
