Jeep is doubling down on plug-in hybrids as it enters into the EV era. The 2024 Wrangler 4xe will be with better-looking grille, and improved off-road features, and also host new technology that will set the path for the other upcoming models as well. New two trim levels will be rolled out from the automaker.
The latest update to the hybrid Wrangler marks a significant milestone since the introduction of the initial 4xe (pronounced “four by E”) variant in 2021. Jeep aims to leverage the immense popularity of the Wrangler 4xe among its adventure-seeking customers. Stellantis reported that around 25% of Jeep Wranglers sold in the previous year were plug-in hybrids, with more than 43,000 units of the Wrangler 4xe sold in 2022, an increase of 46% from the previous year.
Jeep is striving to maintain the momentum for the 2024 Wrangler 4xe by reinforcing many of the attributes that contributed to the initial version’s success, including improved off-road capabilities, towing capacity, and advanced in-car technology. The Wrangler Sport S 4xe offers a “lower entry price point” to the lineup, while the Rubicon X boasts larger 35-inch tires, steel bumpers, and a plethora of other high-end components. During a briefing with journalists last month, Jeep disclosed many of these details and more. The automaker’s executives refrained from answering questions regarding the price of the new Wrangler, but if the 2021 Wrangler 4xe’s price tag is any indication, it is likely to be expensive.
Features
The 2021 Wrangler 4xe Sahara begins at $52,520, while the Rubicon costs $56,220 and the High Altitude is priced at $58,340. Jeep’s iconic seven-slotted grille is the first component to undergo an upgrade, although the automaker is not altering the number of slots or anything significantly different. Instead, it is imparting them with a black textured appearance and a bezel that matches either the slot or the Jeep’s body color, depending on the trim level. The automaker characterizes its new front-facing appearance as “slimmer both visually and literally.”
The 2024 Wrangler 4xe now offers an 8,000 lb Warn winch, which is factory-installed, to ensure that you never get stranded in the wilderness. Warn produces some of the most capable winches available, making it logical for Jeep to partner with the company for its towing requirements. The 2024 Wrangler 4xe will undoubtedly include various features that will appeal to Jeep enthusiasts who seek to venture beyond the beaten path. For the first time, it will include a full-float Dana rear axle with an available 100:1 crawl ratio, allowing Jeep owners to upgrade their tires for better off-road performance and comfort. Additionally, there will be an option for a factory-installed winch.
