Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra May Feature an Advanced Under-Display Camera

Samsung has recently unveiled the Galaxy S25 series, but the company is already looking ahead to the Galaxy S26 Ultra. A major innovation in the pipeline is an advanced under-display camera (UDC), potentially improving upon the technology used in the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Reports suggest that Samsung is actively testing this next-gen UDC to offer a more immersive and seamless display experience.

Next-Gen Under-Display Camera in Development

According to leaks on X (formerly Twitter), Samsung is working on refining its under-display camera technology for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The goal is to eliminate notches and punch holes while ensuring high-quality images. Samsung has previously used UDC in its Galaxy Z Fold lineup, but its execution has been less than perfect, with noticeable pixelation and reduced resolution over the camera area.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra’s UDC is reportedly undergoing rigorous testing to overcome these challenges. The primary focus is on improving light transmission while maintaining display quality. Samsung’s recent patents indicate that the company is developing a more efficient optical sensor-based UDC system to enhance both display clarity and camera performance.

Overcoming Past UDC Limitations

Samsung’s earlier UDC implementations in foldable devices allowed light to pass through the screen but led to compromised image quality. The company is now addressing these concerns by integrating more advanced materials and display structures. If successful, the Galaxy S26 Ultra will feature a truly seamless, high-resolution screen without any visible camera cutout.

Competition in Under-Display Camera Technology

Samsung is not alone in the race for cutting-edge UDC technology. Google is rumored to be developing an under-display facial recognition system for its Pixel 11 lineup. If both companies succeed, these innovations could set a new standard for smartphone displays. However, it remains uncertain whether Samsung’s improved UDC will also debut on the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

What to Expect

While details are still emerging, Samsung’s advancements in UDC technology suggest a significant leap forward for smartphone displays. If the Galaxy S26 Ultra successfully integrates this enhanced under-display camera, it could redefine user expectations for flagship devices. Stay tuned for more updates as testing continues.
