Windows 11 Version 24H2 Causes Issues with Popular Ubisoft Games like Star Wars Outlaws, Microsoft Confirms
TwitterWhatsappLinkedin

Microsoft has acknowledged that the latest update to Windows 11, version 24H2, is causing significant issues for gamers. Popular Ubisoft titles, including Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, are reportedly becoming unresponsive during gameplay, loading screens, or even startup.

The company has implemented a temporary compatibility block for affected systems to prevent further disruptions.

Compatibility Hold Applied to Protect Users

In an official update on its support website, Microsoft detailed the problem, confirming that these Ubisoft games might freeze or fail to run entirely after users upgrade to Windows 11 version 24H2.

“After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games,” Microsoft stated. “These games might become unresponsive while starting, loading, or during active gameplay. In some cases, users might receive a black screen.”

To address the problem, Microsoft has placed a temporary compatibility hold. This measure prevents devices with the affected games installed from downloading and installing the 24H2 update via the Windows Update release channel.

Games Affected by the Issue

The list of Ubisoft games affected by the issue includes some of the company’s most high-profile titles:

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
  • Assassin’s Creed Origins
  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
  • Star Wars Outlaws
  • Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

These games are particularly popular among PC gamers, making the issue a significant roadblock for many in the gaming community.

Ubisoft’s Attempt to Address the Problem

Ubisoft has already released a major patch, Title Update 1.4, specifically targeting the issues in Star Wars Outlaws. However, despite these efforts, the problem persists for many players.

Microsoft has acknowledged Ubisoft’s updates but warns that the fixes may not fully resolve the issue. “Players may still experience issues even after applying the latest updates from Ubisoft,” the company noted.

What Gamers Can Do

Until a permanent fix is implemented, Microsoft advises users to avoid updating their systems to Windows 11 version 24H2 if they play any of the affected Ubisoft titles. Gamers who have already updated and are encountering issues are encouraged to monitor updates from both Microsoft and Ubisoft for further resolutions.

For those impacted, Microsoft recommends delaying the upgrade process altogether. Users can manually pause updates through the Windows Update settings.

No Timeline for a Permanent Fix

Microsoft and Ubisoft have yet to provide a timeline for when these compatibility issues will be fully resolved. For now, the compatibility hold will remain in place to prevent more users from experiencing these disruptions.

The situation highlights the challenges of ensuring compatibility between operating system updates and complex game software. While patches and updates are a routine part of maintaining digital ecosystems, such widespread issues emphasize the need for collaboration between software developers and gaming studios.

A Cautionary Tale for Gamers

For gamers eager to experience Windows 11’s latest features, this incident serves as a reminder to always check for potential compatibility issues before upgrading. As Microsoft and Ubisoft work on a solution, affected players are left to decide whether to delay their updates or face potential disruptions to their gaming experience.

In the meantime, the gaming community is hopeful for a swift resolution so that players can enjoy their favorite titles without interruption.
