YouTube is soon to come up with a child-friendly version of its service for mobile devices. The app is free, and will be launched on 23rd Feb, 2015 for Android devices and in the U.S. only as of now.
The kids app will have content suitable for youngsters. The app is expected to include a number of parental control features, such as a limiter that restricts the time of each session, and a sound toggle for muting and unmuting videos. The app will ship with content from a range of partners from the entertainment industry, including Jim Henson TV, DreamWorks, National Geographic, and a range of high-profile YouTubers.
“The images are big as are the tap targets for small fingers, and since most younger children can’t type they can search with voice,” says Ben-Yair, the project’s group Product Manager.”(Year over year) we’ve seen 50% growth in viewing time on YouTube, but for our family entertainment channels, it’s more like 200%.”
