Chennai: May 25, 2014: The first ever Global Mobile App Summit & Awards to be held at Chennai on May 28th and May 29th has already started making waves with over 2500 nominations for the GMASA awards. The jury comprising of Mr Murugavel, Mr Xavier Prabhu, Ms Kavi Priya, Ms Laksmi Pottuluri will be selecting the winners from the shortlisted apps. The winners will be announced and awarded on May 29th at the Awards evening to be held at ITC Grand.
Three new categories have been included viz., Social Media Celebrity Icon Award, Tie Chennai nomination award and The Chennai Angels nomination award.
GMASA had 19 interesting categories under which the app developers were asked to submit their applications. The categories varied from apps developed for entertainment, education, lifestyle, media&video, news, medical, music, games to social media apps, to name a few.
L Hemachandran, Advisory member, GMASA said “With over 2500 apps received, the response was truly overwhelming; Mobile App Investment doubled globally over a period of 12 months, and that is why we are excited to have venture capitalists/Angel Investors at the Summit on the same platform as Mobile App Developers, it is a win-win. ”

Besides the awards, the two day summit will also host some interesting speakers from across the app industry including international speakers. Key speakers include Anand Dubey, MD, Google India ; Kanumury Rasdhesh, IBM ; R.Narayanan, Chairman of XCODE Life sciences ; Gul Panag CFO of Mobie Fit ; Kushal Sangavi, Business head of Reliance entertainment ; Senthil, COO of Frilp ; Aloke Bajpai, CEO of IXIGO.com among other prominent ones.

To encourage talented youngsters and to recognize them, for the first time ever GMASA will have the Make in India Student App Fest to enable students to showcase their innovative app/app idea, and also provide an opportunity to get it off the ground with the help of an angel investor. Apart from student app fest GMASA will also host Entrepreneur Pitch Zone to connect app creators with investors.
