Apple has finally announced the date for the launch event of the latest iPhones. Right from their names, to designs, to release dates and prices, a lot of rumors and leaks about iPhones have been doing the rounds for months. But now, since Apple has sent out media invites for the event to be held on September 12 at the Steve Jobs theatre, we’ll finally get to know how much of these rumors actually appear on the phones.
However, there are no details about the products in the invitation. So, for now, let’s take a look at what the new iPhones might look like based on the leaks released lately.

What’s in a Name?
So, what will be the name of the new iPhones to be launched on September 12? Nobody knows for sure. Earlier this year, a series of leaks suggested the first of the new iPhones could be named iPhone 11, while the bigger iPhone would be called iPhone 11 Plus. On the other hand, the cheaper or budget iPhone would be named iPhone 9.
But, if the latest leaks are to be believed the first of the three iPhones will be iPhone XS, the bigger version will be named iPhone XS Max, and lastly, the less expensive one will be called simply ‘iPhone’ or
The iPhone XS will probably be an upgrade to the iPhone X while iPhone XS Max is going to be Apple’s most premium smartphone till date. Both of these smartphones are likely to come with bezel-less notched OLED screens while the budget iPhone model will sport an LCD screen.
Release and Launch Dates

Expected Date for PreOrder – Friday, September 14
Expected Date of Release – September 21 or September 28
So, it is expected that both the launch and release of new iPhones will happen within September. Apple usually releases new iPhones on Friday, a week or two after unveiling the products on the stage. It is expected that Apple will follow the trend this year too and release the latest iPhones either on September 21 or September 28. The pre-order will probably begin in the US on September 14 at midnight.

- The price estimate for iPhone XS – $999 (£999, AU$1,579)

Designs and Colors
The iPhone XS and the bigger iPhone XS Max are speculated to be available in three color variants – gold, black, and white, while the budget iPhone or iPhone 9 with the LCD screen will make an entry in five color variants – white, black, blue, red, and orange.
In the leaked photos and videos, the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max can be seen in the new gold color. In fact, we have already seen a gold iPhone in 2018 – the iPhone X that was believed to be canceled prior to the launch of iPhone last year. But, that gave us a fair idea of what an iPhone in gold color would look like.
The gold color will definitely give a new and fresh look to the iPhones. But other than that, there may not be many differences in look between the current iPhone X and the upcoming iPhone XS, at least at the first glance.
Like the current iPhone X, the iPhone XS is also expected to have a stainless steel frame. Similarly, the cheaper iPhone may have an aluminum frame, much like the current iPhone 8.
Size
The height and width of the iPhone XS will probably be same as that of iPhone X, while iPhone XS Max will be a little bigger as it may sport a 6.5-inch screen. It will be a little bigger or smaller than the iPhone 8 Plus. However, the latest iPhones will be thicker than the current ones due to camera upgrades like the inclusion of a larger rear camera sensor and lens.
According to rumors, Apple has clipped the bezel at the top, as well as at the bottom in the new iPhone. Therefore, it won’t be much bigger than the iPhone 8. In fact, even the size of the iPhone XS Max may match that of 5.5- inch iPhone 8 Plus. The iPhone XS Max is expected to come with a 6.5-inch screen.
One rumor suggests iPhone XS Max’s size to be 158.4 x 78.1 x 7.7 mm. So, it may be only 0.2 inches thicker than the iPhone 8 Plus. Another rumor puts its size at 157.2 x 77.1 mm. The same way, the iPhone XS is speculated to be of almost same size as that of iPhone X, but a little thicker, again due to camera upgrades.
Camera
The camera may be one of the most important features of the new iPhones and is also expected to play a big role in its success. But at present, we don’t have the details. However, it is expected that both iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will come with a dual-lens rear camera, while the budget iPhone model will have only a single-lens rear camera. The photos from the dual-lens camera are likely to be 12 MP.
On the front, the iPhones will probably sport a TrueDepth camera. So, you can expect lots of depth-sensing features in the front camera. As per the recent Apple patent, we might see a single lens camera system having dual-lens like features, either in this year’s iPhones or in those to be released next year.
Battery
As per the opinion of the experts and Apple analysts, the iPhone XS may include a 10% to 20% larger battery and so, you can expect longer battery life. The battery of the iPhone XS Max, on the other hand, maybe 25% bigger than that of the iPhone X, according to Ming-Chi Kuo. This means the iPhone XS Max may come with a 3300mAh or 3400mAh battery.
We can also expect fast charging, as Apple will probably include a fast charger in the box. But, you won’t be able to buy the charger separately. As per the latest reports, to get the Apple’s new fast charger, you might have to buy a new iPhone.
Other Specifications
- The new iPhones will probably be faster than the previous ones due to the inclusion of the Apple A 12 chipset.
- According to Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, the new iPhone may support faster mobile data speed and 4GB of RAM. Some models, however, may come with 3GB of RAM, especially the budget model.
- 512GB is expected to be the maximum storage space to be offered by new iPhone XS Max. The other storage sizes we can expect are 64GB and 256GB.
- The new iPhones are also expected to come with a dual SIM card slot.
- Ming-Chi Kuo has reportedly claimed that Apple would probably use Intel models exclusively for the new iPhones.
- Both iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will run on the iOS 12 software. So, Apple may announce the official release date for iOS 12 on September 12.
- On Tuesday, September 18, we may expect iOS to be launched on older iPhones.
