What is a security delay in an iPhone?

Security delay can be called an activated response by a person who wants their iPhone data to stay protected in case the phone is in the wrong hands, stolen or lost. When Stolen Device Protection is enabled, your iPhone imposes a waiting period before allowing changes to sensitive settings, especially if the device is in an unfamiliar location. This security delay helps prevent unauthorized access after a theft. It can be enabled in a few simple steps, and your data is temporarily saved until and unless you take action on your part. It doesn’t resolve the issue, it just buys you time to deal with it.

How to turn off the security delay in an iPhone?

To disable the security delay on your iPhone, which is part of the Stolen Device Protection feature, you’ll need to go through a few steps. First, launch the Settings app and then navigate to either “Face ID & Passcode” or “Touch ID & Passcode,” depending on your iPhone model. This is necessarily there to keep your phone protected from an unauthorized attempt to break in. After entering your passcode, find and tap on “Stolen Device Protection.” When you try to turn it off, you’ll be prompted to “Start Security Delay.” Tap that and then “Done.”

But you’ll see that it doesn’t happen immediately. For security reasons, you’ll need to wait one hour. Once that hour is up, go back to the Stolen Device Protection settings via “Settings” > “Face ID & Passcode”. After verifying your identity with Face ID or Touch ID, you’ll finally be able to toggle the “Stolen Device Protection” switch off completely, which will also disable the security delay. And now the entire procedure is done and the security delay which was initially enabled on the device is disabled.

Why turn off the security delay on an iPhone?

There is no specific reason that can compel you to turn it off. However, there can be multiple reasons that can be true for your case, so be sure.

  • Selling your iPhone – If you are selling your iPhone, then you should turn off Stolen Device Protection before selling, giving away, or trading in your iPhone.
  • Important changes in settings – There might be situations where you need to make immediate changes to critical settings and cannot afford to wait for the security delay to expire.
  • Troubleshooting – This can also be a problem in certain cases, though very rare.

See if it’s happening with you and if it is, then now you know how to handle it.

Disabling Security Delay Without a Passcode

If you’ve forgotten your passcode or are unable to authenticate via Face ID or Touch ID, you can use MagFone iPhone Unlocker to turn off the security delay. Install and launch MagFone iPhone Unlocker on your computer. Connect your iPhone using a USB cable. Follow the on-screen instructions to put your iPhone into DFU or recovery mode. The software will detect your device model and prompt you to download the appropriate firmware package. Once the firmware is downloaded, click on the “Unlock” button. The software will then remove the security delay and any associated locks from your device.

Please note that using MagFone iPhone Unlocker to turn off Security Delay will erase all data on your iPhone. It’s recommended to back up your data beforehand, if possible.
