Shape of Dreams is a roguelite game filled with exciting unlockable characters, also known as Travelers. Each Traveler has unique abilities, strengths, and requires specific achievements to unlock. Whether you prefer ranged magic, melee strength, or support roles, this guide explains how to unlock all eight characters so you can experience every playstyle.

- Lacerta: This is a ranged attacker who uses firearms and hail of bullets. You get Lacerta right after you finish the tutorial.
- Mist: A fast melee duelist with high mobility. Mist is unlocked just like Lacerta—straight after the tutorial.
These two allow you to begin your journey and understand the game mechanics before unlocking others.
Characters Unlocked Through Specific Milestones
Here are the remaining six Travelers and exactly what you need to do to unlock each of them:
TravellerHow to UnlockYubarCollect 300 Dream Dust in total. Dream Dust is the blue permanent currency you gather across many runs. AurenaHeal a total of 25,000 health across all your runs. Healing through memories, lifesteal, or support effects all count. NachiaBe defeated 20 times. Losses count! Every failed run brings you closer to unlocking her. VesperReach the third world, known as Dream of the Night Sky. This means beating the world bosses of the first two areas in a single run. BismuthMaintain a movement speed of 900 or more for three continuous seconds. You’ll need specific speed-boosting Memories, Essences, and probably an open area to avoid being slowed. Mist is often used for this challenge.
The Secret Traveler: Shell
- Shell is the hidden character, sometimes called the secret character or wooden assassin. Unlocking Shell is more complex:
- Progress far enough to reach the Samurai World biome.
- While exploring that biome, collect three souls located randomly in the map.
- Before fighting the biome’s boss, find a wooden doll near the stairs of the boss arena. Interact with that doll three times, delivering the collected souls.
- Complete that run, and the Shell character should unlock. Note: Some players report bugs where this doesn’t work on first try. If that happens, you may need to repeat the process.
Tips & Advice for Efficiency
- Plan your goals: While grinding for Dream Dust, also try to gather healing and speed items so you make progress toward multiple unlocks at once.
- Accept defeats: Losing isn’t always a bad thing. For example, you need 20 defeats for Nachia, so each run that ends prematurely still counts.
- Speed unlock requires prep: For Bismuth, choose Mist (she’s naturally faster), find speed boosting equipment, avoid actions that slow you down (like heavy melee attacks), and try to sprint in open space.
- Don’t rush Shell mission: Exploration matters. Missing one of the souls or interacting incorrectly with the wooden doll can cost you progress.
Why Unlock All the Travelers?
Unlocking all characters gives you access to a variety of playstyles:
- Ranged vs melee
- High speed, support, or tank roles
- Hidden mechanics and secrets (especially with Shell)
Also, knowing more characters lets you experiment with builds, memories, essences, and discover combos that fit how you like to play.
