About the Portrait Mode on iOS 26

In iOS 26, Portrait Mode is part of the “Liquid Glass” redesign, making the interface feel more immersive and smooth. This new addition is being appreciated by the users for its amazing experience and smoothness like water. By default, the camera app now highlights “Photo” and “Video,” so you’ll need to swipe on the mode selector to find Portrait Mode again. But it’s all worth it. The best part of this feature is 3D Spatial Scenes, which lets you turn your normal and standard portraits into dynamic 3D photos. This gives a more detailed picture with a parallax effect. The object identification is really amazing to place the focus on the object or person in the center.

Steps to get the Portrait mode on iOS 26

If you want to use the portrait mode on iOS 26, then these are the steps that you need to follow.

Launch the Camera

As the first thing, just open your Camera app from the Lock Screen or Home Screen.

Do the Swipe Gesture

As a default setting, you’ll likely only see “Photo” and “Video” on the bottom bar. So, swipe right on the mode selector to reveal the hidden Portrait mode. Once you do it, the mode will pop up on your screen.

Wait for the Yellow Box

Now, adjust your camera, put the focus on the object you want to capture. When the camera recognizes a face or object, you’ll see the lighting effect like “Natural Light” turn yellow. When that happens, tap on the Shutter button.

Newer Versions

If you’re using an iPhone 16 or newer versions, you can also use the Camera Control button on the side of the phone to press and enter directly into Portrait mode. This can be done without touching the screen, and a lot of people find that simpler.

Doing this, you can use the portrait mode on iOS 26. It’s a good feature that allows you to click pictures while only focusing on the subject and blurring the background as needed. While an iPhone is already known for its amazing camera quality, this feature just makes it top-notch. Whether or not you’re a fan of using portrait mode, you should try it once with your iOS 26 for some good results.
