Apple has announced the lineup for its upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference. The event begins on June 6 and concludes on June 11. While WWDC is primarily a developer conference, the highlight is the announcement of new Apple device operating system updates. Apple will reveal new features for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS. There have been times when Apple has announced new items during WWDC.
The keynote address kicks off WWDC on June 6.
The keynote address is scheduled for June 6th (10.30 pm IST). During the speech, Apple will discuss software updates for iPhones, iPads, Apple Watch, Macs, and other devices.
iOS 16: New iPhone features
iOS 16 is the next big upgrade for iPhone users. While the official roll out will happen later in the year — September or October — Apple will showcase the big features of iOS 16. So far, very little is known but it is expected that Apple will not bring a design overhaul. New features in Focus mode are expected along with a tweak in notifications.
iPadOS 16: More Mac-like?
Apple has been making iPadOS feature-rich for a laptop-like experience over the previous few years. According to rumours, multitasking on iPads will continue to improve. The iPad, like the iPhone, is likely to gain a revamped notification system.
watchOS 9 introduces new faces and health features
Apple Watch faces are slated to receive a significant overhaul. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple will update several of its existing Watch faces as well as introduce new ones. Gurman, who has a good track record with Apple updates, has also stated that watchOS 9 will be one of the most significant upgrades to the Watch in recent years.
macOS 13: A colossal update
Apple has begun calling the latest macOS versions after California national parks, such as Big Sur and Catalina. MacOS 13 is rumoured to be called Mammoth. With Apple’s focus on its own silicon CPUs, we can expect improvements geared toward that. One feature that may receive an upgrade with macOS 13 is Universal Control.
tvOS: New Functions
Apple TV’s operating system is also likely to be updated. However, little is known about the characteristics to be expected.
