Samsung Adds New Emojis But Not Racially Diverse Ones

27 February, 2016, USA: Samsung’s Galaxy S7, announced at ‘Mobile World Congress’ this week, comes with 159 new emojis and a number of additional emoji font changes. These emoji changes are the first from Samsung since the release of the Galaxy S5 in 2014. The bulk of the additions come from Unicode 7.0 and Unicode 8.0 releases, but as with other platforms, some earlier Unicode characters retro-actively blessed with emoji status are also included, reports emojipedia.

Galaxy S7s will automatically come with the emoji, and Galaxy devices that are upgraded to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow will get them too. While that’s great for users who’ve long waited for these new set, the update is sorely missing racially diverse emoji that allows users to modify the skin tones of emoji in the people or hand gesture categories. Instead, everyone is white except for the police officer and dancer.

This emoji update is available for users of the Galaxy S7 as well as Samsung devices that are eligible for the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update3.
