An Ex-Bethesda Dev has come forward about just how big Starfield really is, it is pretty obvious Starfield is not just a huge game, but that it has a pretty good, large team behind it. The massive development team behind Bethesda’s next-gen role-playing game is partly why Nate Purkeypile left Bethesda to start Just Purkey Games.
According to Just Purkeypile founder and former Bethesda developer Nate Purkeypile, who was recently interviewed by PCGamesN, and gave an idea as to just how large of a team behind Bethesda’s upcoming sci-fi action-RPG may actually be, it is probably not just Bethesdas former Bethesda. There are allegedly 500 or so people working on Starfield, which is a number dwarfing that of developers working on Fallout 76. Nate Purkeypile said, Starfield is a much bigger project; the Starfield dev team has like 500 people or something. He estimates Fallout 76 only had about 200 people working on it.
Nate Purkeypile indicated the development team for Starfield will be double that of Fallout 76. While Nate Purkeypile, for pretty obvious reasons, was unable to share much information on Bethesda’s next RPG, Nate did have a few exciting things to say about working with Bethesda on Starfield. PCGamer actually asked Nate Purkeypile how the team was creating all those planets, which he shared, “I cannot really get into the technical details of that”.
Starfield may well end up being the granddaddy of Bethesdas RPG games, with the studio moving away from Fallout and The Elder Scrolls-like properties and developing a new universe that redefines their open-world games to become even more open-universe, with thousands of planets to explore.
Starfield could very well be the magnum opus of Bethesdas RPG games, as the studio steps out behind the likes of Fallout and The Elder Scrolls to develop a new universe that redefines open-world games to be more open-universe, with thousands of planets to explore. While we are welcoming big games with vast worlds to explore and lots of things to do more specifically 100 systems with over 1000 planets, it is troubling for many players to hear this, and that Bethesda’s upcoming RPG may well become the next Cyberpunk 2077; an overambitious project that had great promise, but did not end up performing the way it was meant to. Starfield is slated to release in 2023 as revealed with a gameplay trailer in the Xbox Bethesda Game Showcase 2022. We hope to learn more about the concrete release date soon.
