18 February, 2016, Mumbai: Every employee has a dream of making it large and opening his own business, but many dreams like this never makes it to the reality. One of India’s biggest business houses, Aditya Birla Group has taken the challenge to make their employees’ dream come true. The group plans to kick start an intrapreneurship programme soon. The programme will be called ‘Innolabs’ and under this venture, the company will allow its employees to take a time off from their routine work and pursue their entrepreneurial ambition.
Earlier, in a similar move, the group had launched Aditya Birla Bizlabs in 2015. Under this venture, company invited startups in retail, financial services and telecom businesses to enrol for the programme. The company received an overwhelming response and 1200 startups had applied for it, out of these, 20 were chosen to scale up with the conglomerate.
“When we were doing all of this (Bizlabs) for startups outside, our employees joining us from IITs and IIMs started asking: what is there in it for us? So, we have started working on something for our employees called Aditya Birla Innolabs,” quotes Umesh Adhikary, President, Corporate Strategy and Business Development, Aditya Birla Group at a ETNasscom roundtable.
“If your idea is great and we see conviction and passion in you, we are going to help you create a company of your own. At the same time, we are going to give you a six-month or one-year sabbatical where you are going to go, develop the product, create your own team and in case you fail, you can come and join back,” Adhikary stated further.
