Although Ming-Chi Kuo projected that Apple will reveal its much-awaited AR/MR headset during its recent WWDC 2022, this did not happen.

Although the firm announced the next-generation iOS and iPadOS, among other things, it made no mention of augmented or virtual reality. Now, Kuo has some new information on the subject, claiming that Apple’s AR/MR headset will be available in shops before next year’s WWDC event.

Apple’s AR/MR Headset Will Be Available Next Year

Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known Apple analyst, recently took to Twitter to give some information on Apple’s impending AR/MR headset. Due to the lockdowns in Shanghai, Kuo expects that the release date of Apple’s AR/MR headset would be pushed back to the second quarter of 2023.

In a subsequent tweet, the analyst speculated on the AR/MR headset’s development schedule, suggesting that it will enter the EVT (Engineering Validation Test) stage in Q3 2022. He also stated that Apple will conduct a media event to introduce the gadget in early 2023, most likely in January. Finally, Kuo stated that the AR/MR headset will be available in shops before WWDC 2023, with pre-orders beginning in Q2 2023. You can check out his tweet, which is has been posted down below.

I believe Apple's AR/MR headset shipping date will postpone to 2Q23 (vs. 1Q23 of market consensus) because Shanghai lockdown interrupts the development. As expected, there were no clues for AR/MR headset at WWDC 2022. Here is my prediction for Apple AR/MR headset schedule.

— 郭明錤 (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) June 7, 2022

In terms of what to expect, Apple’s highly anticipated AR/ MR headset has long been reported. According to previous speculations, it will use Apple’s Memojis and SharePlay capabilities for virtual FaceTime chats. Furthermore, it is believed to run a new platform dubbed RealityOS and include Apple’s newly disclosed M2 processor. There’s a chance it’ll have two 4K micro OLED panels, compatibility for ‘extensive’ apps, and a slew of other features.

Aside from that, not much is known about the headgear right now. However, if this schedule holds true, we should anticipate additional information regarding the Apple AR/MR headset to emerge in the following months.

The pricing of the Apple VR and mixed reality headsets has received varied reviews. However, rumors indicate a developer focus, therefore price may be centered on luring programmers.

Tim Cook has spoken extensively about how AR is Apple’s ultimate objective. According to reports, the headgear is the first step toward the company’s wearable AR aspirations. The headset’s primary objective is apparently to train developers for the release of Apple Glass, as well as to guarantee that the specs have app support for the launch. Apple’s primary motivation is not to earn money, and sources indicate that the headset’s pricing will reflect this.

We will be definitely working towards bringing more such updates about the Apple headsets in the near future, so stay tuned with us on TechStory for more updates.
