Facebook Locks Horns With Snapchat; Acquires Video Filter App MSQRD

10 March, 2016, USA: In its earlier move, Snapchat app had acquired Looksery to supercharge its animated selfie filters and now, Facebook is all set to give it a tough competition. The social media giant has recently acquired Masquerade (popularly known as MSQRD) to keep up the messaging pace.

Both the companies have confirmed the acquisition news, while MSQRD posted the confirmation on its blog and on the other hand, Facebook’s spokesperson informed the media about the acquisition. The spokesperson said, “Masquerade has built a fantastic app, MSQRD, with world-class imaging technology for video. We’re excited to welcome Masquerade to our team and continue enhancing the Facebook video experience.”

MSQRD stated in its blog, “At Masquerade, we’ve worked hard to make video more fun and engaging by creating filters that enhance and alter your appearance. Now, we’re excited to join forces with Facebook and bring the technology to even more people. Within Facebook, we’re going to be able to reach people at a scale like never before.”

With this acquisition, Facebook is planning to enhance its newly acquired video service with features such as video editing tools which will be now equipped with add-ons like stickers and texts on images etc.
