Bengaluru, April 9 : Homegrown e-commerce giant Flipkart today said Peeyush Ranjan will join the company as Senior Vice President and Head of Engineering.

Ranjan spent the last nine years in Google at its Mountainview, California headquarters, where most recently he managed Google’s Android One engineering group, Flipkart said in a statement.

He has also managed Motorola’s Value Devices engineering group and was Managing Director of Google India for Research and Development, it said.

Ranjan would work closely with Flipkart Commerce Platform (Head) Mukesh Bansal to build on the company’s strong technology expertise and support its commitment to excel as a world-class technology company.

Stating that the senior appointment comes shortly after Flipkart announced the hiring of Punit Soni as Chief Product Officer, who was a senior product management executive for Google and Motorola, it said both of them are moving from Mountainview, California, to Flipkart’s headquarters in Bengaluru.

Soni and Ranjan have worked closely together for Google and Motorola, including on the launch of Motorola’s Moto G and Moto E devices, which are highly popular in emerging markets like India, the company said.

“I am delighted Peeyush will be moving from the Bay Area to Bangalore to play this important role in Flipkart’s further development,” said Flipkart CEO & Co-Founder Sachin Bansal.
